The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) yesterday said that they have doubts on the statement made by President Maithripala Sirisena on providing a final decision to the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) controversy during the meeting recently held with media heads.

GMOA Secretary Dr. Haritha Aluthge told a news conference that President Sirisena had said to the media heads that he had only assured of giving a statement with regard to the SAITM, not a final solution.

“During the meeting held at the Presidential Secretariat last week, the President has assured to give a final solution to this issue. However, he has not yet given a statement on SAITM,” he added. He said it was evident from President Sirisena’s behaviour that several external forces were attempting to intervene in to his decisions.

He also said President Sirisena should immediately provide them with an answer to the SAITM issue without further delay. “About 7,000 students attached to eight medical faculties have boycotted lectures during the last five months over this issue,” he added. (Kalathma Jayawardhane)

There is nothing to doubt. SAITM will stay. Pity that GMOA is unable to stomach this.

I have a doubt the President had given such an answer!! Who asked the students to boycott lectures!!? The GMOA can always give the students private tuition!!!

University students boycotting the classes because of GMOA and not because of President,Prime Minister,Health Minister or the government. You guys are in a loosing battle and give up the nonsense and get back to your day to day work.

Mr.President, Mr.Prime Minister what is the limit of your patience. Regrettably such threats from those who bite the arm that fed them compel me to think of R.Premadasa-Ranjan Wijeratne combination.

GMOA "New house" should not be upset as students have chosen by free will not to attend lectures. After a period of rest may be they will recognize Caro's legacy to them and resume lectures. GMOA doing PG exams. No break for that

Specially the private universities have a deadline to complete the degree/ diploma within a time frame. If the students do not finish their studies during the given time span they are not warded the degree/diploma. This should be applied to government university students. So that can either choose to learn and earn the degree or strike and lose the degree

co Joseph you are fully correct. The study period of the striking students MUST be prolonged by 1 year to catch up what they missed. Otherwise theyll become quakes. via DM Android App

Decisions on medical education of 7000 students prawn to political people by GMOA to get their help to strengthen 'Against SAITM' movement, their intention is not the future of students but their political targets. So again ;stern action' of GMOA would be prolongation of boycott of lectures of students only.

If SAITM graduates ready to sit ACT16, will it not sufficient, because foreign university students from third world countries also admitting after qualified Act16.so it's reasonable if allow the same to SAITM
