A meeting between President Maithripala Sirisena and a UNP delegation led by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on Wednesday turned tense with heated arguments, after the UNP insisted that SLFP ministers who voted for the no-confidence motion against the Prime Minister should quit the government.

However, the President is reported to have refused to accede to the request.

Meanwhile, Disaster Management Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, who voted for the motion, said he had no intention of remaining in the government, but said only the President could decide whether he and the others, should remain or leave.

“This is a coalition government. The SLFP is a party to it. The President, as the party leader, should decide on our stance and not the UNP,” he said.  (Kelum Bandara)

Whether it is UNP or any other party MPs are just pawns of their respective leader. They have to take whatever is given and keep their mouths shut until they are told what to do next.

President Sir, You have gradually began to show your genuine colors. When the Bond Commission inquiry was in progress, you requested PM to step down until the inquiry was over. You are now trying to protect your Ministers who went against the parliamentary ethics. One more thing, you suggested PM to not to get support from TNA for the NCM,But you totally forgot that you are today in the President's seat because of TNA's support. Why this discrimination? You seem selfish. People of this country day by day losing confidence in you Sir. Think about it very seriously and do the right thing or else be prepared to end your political career much earlier than you think.

Cat is out of the bag. It is clear now who has been behind the NCM no matter how they deny.

    Thomas Saturday, 07 April 2018 08:30 AM

Its the moral obligation of the traitorous Ministers to resign on their own, since they did not succeed with their NCMPresident should replace them with other M P's

Disaster Management Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, who voted for the motion, said he had no intention of remaining in the government, but said only the President could decide. This man is turned out to be a disaster himself why let someone else make a decision when you made up your mind already to leave the govt ? Gutless, Spineless, Dishonest and selfish individual like you is a disrespect to the entire country ... just leave and don't ever comeback to the politics ever again.. who is the idiot put him in-charge of Disaster Management ?

    NIMAL Friday, 21 September 2018 04:04 PM

    you are a Disaster..

    Shehan Saturday, 07 April 2018 08:32 AM

Unfortunately burden for country till 2020. You just wait!!!!

"HE" is the strongest supporter of POHOTTUWA.

    Ex-Voter Saturday, 07 April 2018 08:38 AM

Unfortunately, MS does not appear to know where to begin and end. He gave permission for the MPs to vote as they liked and those who voted for the NCM should not remain in the cabinet as they are definitely stooges of the JO.

    malij Saturday, 07 April 2018 08:40 AM

No confidence motion against the 16 who voted for the NCM is the only way out as there has to be some discipline. in the government. With such people in the ranks, governing the country is not possible at all and is going to be a farce. The President has to remain neutral in such an event like he did or he had claimed that he did, during last NCM against the PM.

    Duminda Saturday, 07 April 2018 08:42 AM

In the future scenario, one will go and another one for good in opposition. Fate cannot be changed unless rest used head.

    malij Saturday, 07 April 2018 08:45 AM

It's mind boggling. The President can at least tell the 16 who voted for the NCM to act according to their conscience, whether to remain in the government or not, like the way he claimed that he did during the NCM against the PM.

Common Sense Saturday, 07 April 2018 08:48 AM

By voting for the No Confidence Motion, those 6 Ministers indicated that their inability to work with the Prime Minister in the Cabinet. Once it was not accepted by the majority of Parliament, these 6 Ministers should resign from the Cabinet, if they are genuine. Behavior of these 6 Ministers show their greediness to keep these ministerial portfolios with them giving lame excuses. President and these 6 Ministers be mindful that rational minded people in this country are not interested in their political parties. Please be Gentlemen by your acts and not only by words.

All of them are acting. We idoits brelieve them.

    Marwin Saturday, 07 April 2018 08:48 AM

It is high time for the President to resign otherwise Sri Lanka will be unstable and economically ruined. A country cannot be developed if he is playing too much politics without any control over his men. If there had been any strong leader like Premadasa, JR, Chandrika or Mahinda this sort of "Rocking and pinching the baby in the cradle" would never happen or tolarated and the leader would take the decision and ask the members to abide, without having endless meetings and meetings.

    johan Saturday, 07 April 2018 08:52 AM

It is better MS must control his colleagues and there should be some discipline and some conditions if they want to continue the collation government. They cant work for Govt. during day time and night for JO. This will cripple the government activities which will lead SLPP to sweep the major parties in next elections.

    Bindu Saturday, 07 April 2018 08:53 AM

The harmony in the parliament is already shattered. Enmity prevails among ministers. These ministers have no faith in the PM and vice versa. Therefore how can they work with PM any longer? On the other hand, these ministers are humiliated by the public if they continue to be in the House.President as a neutral person should not welcome any rifts in the Govt.by let them be in it.These ministers also should have the self-respect to quit.

    malij Saturday, 07 April 2018 08:58 AM

President is going to end up in the dustbin of Sri Lankan history if he continues like this. He is already having one leg in the bin. The country is bleeding due to his weak decision making and he cannot put the blame on anyone else as he is the head of the government as they claim.

    Man Saturday, 07 April 2018 09:01 AM

The President's stance is correct because he was elected by 62 M people unlike any body else. Others, did not want to loose but talk like won a mandate as such.

    raj Saturday, 07 April 2018 09:05 AM

Gonna thanakola kanaith na kana gonnata theneth na. MS going make sri lanka a failed country before he is chased away.

    saman Saturday, 07 April 2018 09:31 AM

Shame less SLFP jokers will hang on to ministerial posts only for the perks if they have no confidence in Ranil why they be under him as minsters they only drag this government by leg doest allow any thing to proceed .Thilanga should be sacked from dupeuty speaker post and cricket board and give it to Mahela or Sanga

Lord Wolfstein Saturday, 07 April 2018 09:48 AM

It is an imposition of the president to ask the PM to work with traitors. As agreed, the President should allow the PM to govern without interfering

Sri Lankan Citizen Saturday, 07 April 2018 09:55 AM

These kind of shameless individuals you only find in Sri Lanka. Show your character and leave the government !!

    Lankan007 Saturday, 07 April 2018 10:06 AM

you all had the right to say PM should quit...

    Massdeen Saturday, 07 April 2018 10:12 AM

Mr Yaps if your conscience says what you did was guilty please resign respectfully, don’t just hang on to president decision. It means President asked to vote right

Kingsley Wijesinhe Saturday, 07 April 2018 10:18 AM

What about that thing called self respect? Sorry, I forgot that politicians don't have it.

    Labby Saturday, 07 April 2018 10:20 AM

In Mr Anura Priyadarshana Yapa's own words, "this is a coalition government". Why then did he vote against the government? These opportunists say one thing and do another.

    Ceylon Saturday, 07 April 2018 10:28 AM

Including sirisena all these slfp ministersdid everything to destroy economy and judiciary.ssck them all.impesch sirisena for protecting jajapaksa thieves and block judiciary to punish criminals.

    Ishan Saturday, 07 April 2018 10:29 AM

President have no backbone he is playing double game he has forget that he became President with UNP votes.

    Shan Saturday, 07 April 2018 10:36 AM

If President refused the SLFP ministers ouster, then why did he not refuse NCM against the PM in the first place?

    Himalaya Saturday, 07 April 2018 06:50 PM

    we don't need DEPATH Nai

    sn Sunday, 08 April 2018 12:51 AM

Please minimize and stick to the number of ministries to 30. There are so many now who have gracefully decided to leave.

    SL Sunday, 08 April 2018 12:59 AM

Now JO, What about a NCM on Prez?

Ranjan Fernando Sunday, 08 April 2018 05:18 PM

If a set of ministers bring a NCM against their prime minister and lose it, then they should get up and walk out. That is a matter honour. I suppose none of that is left in Srilanka with this kind of President.
