Former Navy Spokesperson Commander D.K.P Dassanayake’s daughter told the media yesterday that her request to meet and lodge a complaint about her father’s detention by the Sri Lankan law enforcement authority, to the visiting three-member UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, had been turned down, claiming it was not a case about the ‘LTTE’.

She said she tried to explain the matter to the visiting UN member at the end of the media conference by the visiting UN delegation in Colombo.

“I was told that since the matter was not connected to an LTTE case, they can’t meet her,” she told the media after her failed attempt to meet them soon after the press conference. She said she came to learn that the delegation members would not come out until she left the place.

She also said that the delegation visited LTTE detainees during last eleven days, but never visited her father at the Welikada Prison Hospital.

“Authorities are detaining my father for almost five months without any charges. I just want to complain about this to the UN, but they did not even let me to meet them,” she said.

The three-member UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention which was in Sri Lanka from December 4, yesterday at the media conference urged the government to introduce urgent reforms to the 'outdated' legal framework to end arbitrary detention in the country.

The delegation comprised Working Group Members José Antonio Guevara Bermúdez, Leigh Toomey and Elina Steinerte.

Your farther allegedly not just detained young men “vanished” them from the face of earth for money extortion. The legal authority must act accordingly and conduct a fair and just legal process to find out the extension of the atrocities.

Why is this even news? This criminal has been detained for kidnapping and killing young teenagers in colombo for RANSOM. These include Sinhala, Muslim, Christian and Tamil children from prominent families, so putting an 'LTTE gundu' isn't going to work. The UN is not here to secure the release of kidnapping murderers who terrorized the families of innocent civilians to make a quick buck. If anything this woman should be thrown in prison as well for harassing the UN officials and enjoying the blood money her criminal father in uniform earned for her, at the expense of young lives and tearing apart families.

The UN is here to raise concerns about LTTE. Why do you have double standards?

"The UN is not here to secure the release of kidnapping murderers who terrorized the families of innocent civilians to make a quick buck" Yes they are here to release the innocent terrorists who hid behind poor tamil civilians and child soldiers

These visiting three-member UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention and others who visit our shores are all cut-throat bigots. They represent UK, US, the LTTE Tamil Diaspora abroad and they have to sing for their daily bread. As such their reply 'Since the matter was not connected to an LTTE case', they won't budge from their stance. Please ask the ask President MS not to waste time but release our gallant armed forces personnel immediately without being a puppet, or face the consequences at the next ballot.

Aney duwa... you should have told your father to behave earlier and not to abduct people... That's why he's facing the legal system now. He's (accused of being) a perpetrator, not victim... so what are you complaining about!

Kanchana Jayakodi Saturday, 16 December 2017 05:34 PM

You made SL woman a shame. Keep your back born right up and don't be a beggar from these people if your father have done the right thing. You must also know that your father was suspected of helping to disappear young youths in your age. What do you think if your have a brother or sister in that age and someone made him/her disappear? All these drams appears to be that you want to enter into politics with Udaya Gammanpila. If so do it professionally, without putting SL into shame.

My Dear,These retards who can not find a proper job in the west work only for their paymasters. Obviously they are not interested in any arbitrary detention but only the ones to do with LTTE, who were the world's most ruthless terror organisation. They/West/diaspora only want to revive them for another bloody episode of violence in SL. Sri Lankans who live like frogs in a well should understand this simple fact.Good luck with your struggle to get justice for your dad darling.

If he is really innocent, will the court allow him to be detained?

    ransam Sunday, 17 December 2017 01:41 PM

So what about the detained LTTE terrorists. Will the court allow them to be detained if they are innocent. If so what is UN officials has to do with them

    Deepthi Saturday, 16 December 2017 06:12 PM

Why it's only for LTTE? Others are not humans for the UN? This is totally a bias group of UN mission, Turning the deaf ears and blind eyes in reality.

    Aka Saturday, 16 December 2017 06:22 PM

So you need to be terrorist even to be considerd by the almighty UN.

Ajantha rohana Sunday, 17 December 2017 07:46 AM

I'm rearly froud of you madom.

Nilhan Jayawardene Sunday, 17 December 2017 08:34 AM

I feel sorry for you, but your father being a war hero have done something he shouldn't do. It is a political contract you are doing now. War heros can not be murders. He and his hench men did these thing for extrotion. so I feel he should pay for his crime.

    Gayan Sunday, 17 December 2017 06:50 PM

He should have let that bomb truck go

    Gayan Sunday, 17 December 2017 12:03 PM

So the UN concerned only about terrorists.

    Mandayan Sunday, 17 December 2017 04:02 PM

UN role has not been understood well. It is trying to ensure no arbitrary detentions taking place in this country. Your father detained under due legal process while some are detained under PTA and without a judicial decision. UN is trying harder that PTA should be replaced with another law.

    Gayan Sunday, 17 December 2017 06:48 PM

Why then he is not charged? Its also an arbitary detention no.

LTTE terrorists are detained under the PTA so why change it to suit westerners!

    Mohan Monday, 18 December 2017 07:17 PM

Dear dua, I wish you take time to understand what your father had done outside his scope of work using his privileges. Kidnap, ransom and making people disappear destroys families. If you argument was based on that yes he too is a terrorist with money being the ideology he believes in.
