Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is to meet and discuss with President Maithripala Sirisena certain objections that have been raised by UNP backbenchers on the recent reshuffle, with emphasis on the appointment of new deputy and state ministers, UNP sources said yesterday.

The sources said the UNP backbenchers had been especially critical of Syed Ali Zahir Moulana's appointment as the Deputy Minister of National Integration Reconciliation and Official Languages.

The backbenchers have expressed their dissatisfaction when they met with the Prime Minister on Wednesday (2) these sources revealed.

The meeting between the two leaders is expected to take place next week.

Another suggestion made by these UNP backbenchers was to have a successor in mind for the posts filled recently as a result of the reshuffle as recommended by the Ruwan Wijewardene committee report. This committee was appointed to look into the UNP reforms. (Yohan Perera)

Mr. Prime Minister, rather than that it is better you meet the Prez. and tender your resignation. Back benches wanted that to happen soon.

Hay Ranil, you have neglected the most talented young guys who worked hard to bring UNP to power. i.e. Budhika Pathirana, Sujeewa Senasinghe, Ajith Perera etc., and you have appointed your henchmen who played out and ruined the party.

Oh Ranil. It is abundantly clear that you have ceased to be leader. Please hand over leadership

    Sincere Friday, 04 May 2018 10:02 AM

Nothing to worry. 18 months more to have discussions to put the cabinet right.

    Unchikun Friday, 04 May 2018 10:32 AM

Hey man, the backbenchers and the public are also critical of the PM post.

Jagath Leanage Friday, 04 May 2018 10:34 AM

Everything is preplanned . Ranil would have ask Maithree to do a reshuffle , and later on Maithree would have told Ranil to object for these appointments.

both are Same Friday, 04 May 2018 10:43 AM

These traitors never help the country.they appoint only corrupt stupid idiots, thats why ajith perera, senasingha, ranjan, sarath fonseka never give important ministries.

Even if the entire country voiced their objections to theactions of the President and the Prime Minister, they seem to care two hoots. Both of them may have got the feelingthat they may have to quit their posts due to their unpopularity and would be rejected at the next elections.Their only focus is on travel and seeing the world with theirfamily/spouse.

RW you either put you foot down with MS on the ministerial shuffle or might as well resign from your post and leave the party.MS has no clue to running a government when you appoint a discredited ex minister to Higher Education. Is the government run by crooks and corrupt officials. The whole country is ashamed with both your policies. MS why not you appoint Mahinda Rajapakse as a minister.Who is going to pay fo these ministers, the tax payer and kickbacks by businessmen! This is a real shame for the country.

    SureshP Friday, 04 May 2018 03:58 PM

I was under the impression that it is the PM who recommends and the President appoints. Does this mean that the President is doing arbitrary cabinet changes?

    JeffK Friday, 04 May 2018 04:30 PM

God save our country after 19A if two opposing leaders from two camps become PM and President. This is what happens when traitors mess with the constitution

    Reader Friday, 04 May 2018 04:49 PM

More important is not the Reshuffle but PM post at this discussion.

    DJ Friday, 04 May 2018 05:18 PM

Stop this wheeler dealing and put country first. So far you have been a pathetic PM

    malij Friday, 04 May 2018 06:20 PM

The goons we have appointed to represent us from both sides are more interested in grabbing ministerial portfolios and the guys who got appointed as ministers want more lucrative ministries rather than working for the masses. There is a big opening for a new third party with a set of respected, uncorrupted new faces of professionals. People are sick with the present lot of stinking rats from both sides.
