Some 90 children of government doctors have been unable to secure admission to national schools for the last seven months, the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) said yesterday.

GMOA Assistant Secretary Dr. Naveen de Soyza told Daily Mirror that doctors who were subjected to transfers every four years and who were coming from abroad had the ability to admit their children to national schools under the ‘retainability’ concept, but it had only been implemented for one year since Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne took office.

“Government doctors are forced to leave the country due to this matter. The government should provide our children with a solution to this problem. However, children of pro-government parties are given admission to national schools without any issue,” he said.

Dr. Soyza said the majority of students who were deprived of school admission were for Grade 1 and that for the last seven months they had been studying at primary and private schools. (Kalathma Jayawardhane)

Stupid GMOA always begging for special privileges! If your children are so smart why not let them compete for schools on their own merits?

    Sofia Sunday, 29 July 2018 08:40 PM

In fact if there is any truth about genes, then these children of doctors will carry same vulture blood. Better not edcate them to carry forward that vulture culture.

    Patient Monday, 30 July 2018 07:55 AM

Can't we send the GMOA abroad ?

Stunned Citizen Saturday, 28 July 2018 07:10 PM

Firstly you doctors pass out on poor taxer payers money. Then you strike for the flimsiest excuses. Now you want admissions to government colleges for your children. Anything Else?

    shree Sunday, 29 July 2018 04:30 PM

After some time you will migrate to some other country.I don't know why this government Not yet introduce a good tax paying method for doctors, after the hospital clinical visit they receive a payment by cash end of the day they will drive the TAX FREE vehicle too. This is very unfair.

I have heard a completely different story which Dr. Naveen has expressed. A consultant who is working in Vavuniya and his wife is working in Trinco. But their children attend to popular national school in Colombo. They applied for a transfer to Colombo because of their children. But government refuse to do it. Then both of them decided to leave the country with their children.

    Fairplay Monday, 30 July 2018 08:46 AM

Those doctors would have been old boys of Colombo schools

    LP Saturday, 28 July 2018 07:22 PM

If the truth is that more doctors have to migrate to economically develop countries then the problem will solve by the people.

    Brainmaster Saturday, 28 July 2018 07:41 PM

    Samuel Saturday, 28 July 2018 08:25 PM

Please leave the country as we do not need psychopaths like you in Sri Lanka.

    nmj Saturday, 28 July 2018 08:26 PM

Is the problem only for doctors? We all face the same issue? what is special about doctor's kids?

Kumara Dharmarathne Saturday, 28 July 2018 09:03 PM

When your children were unable to secure admission, you felt the pain,But when the innocent patients were unable to get medicine for their ailments due to your inhumane strike you didn't feel how much pain the patients were undergoing. This is "Ditta dhamma vedaneeya kamma." You have to undergo.

    Ara Saturday, 28 July 2018 09:16 PM

Only 90 for last 7 months, really very low when comapare with other sectors. Dear president please increase this numbers to minimum 250 for the same period .

    Piyal Saturday, 28 July 2018 09:19 PM

Cat out of the bag! In other words the GMOA is Anti-Govt!

    Sc Saturday, 28 July 2018 09:40 PM

Oh , now the children will learn the bad habit and go on strike.

    nimalakantha Saturday, 28 July 2018 09:49 PM

Why should the GMOA thugs who are often on strike for political reasons be given special treatment? They should be treated as any other ordinary citizen. They are behaving worst than thugs in the country, if they are to be given special treatment then people should petition Human Rights Council against them. Its time these thugs are served with the same spoon they serve the public.

    Martin Sunday, 29 July 2018 06:43 PM

    Well said!!!

    Summa Saturday, 28 July 2018 10:52 PM

Very good, they should go thru the same channels like every Perera

    Don Sunday, 29 July 2018 09:25 AM

.Doctor's children never go to State schools but to International Colleges. It is good if they go abroad, then no more strikes. GMOA doctors are not getting jobs in UK or EU

    Rupika Sunday, 29 July 2018 11:57 AM

Some so called Doctors who are actually medical practitioners think no end of themselves. If you like go overseas , but you can work in a pharmacy if you like.

    ravin Sunday, 29 July 2018 12:49 PM

Basically if you guide children correctly they may do well in later part of their lives. How many doctors out of present membership of GMOA had their primary education from national schools ? how many from other schools? How many of them got through scholarship? Why always want to be a merchant of venice?

Rosh fdo Sunday, 29 July 2018 01:03 PM

Do not hoodwink general public anymore guys u have no opprtunitiies in us ,uk eu ,things are getting harder for migrants...

Shabir Zainudeen Sunday, 29 July 2018 01:55 PM

Why do the GMOA doctors need government schools in the first place? They can very well afford International Schools no? do they want to save some bucks by sending their kids to Govt. schools? Shame on you GMOA.

    Theepan Sunday, 29 July 2018 03:03 PM

Everyone should know this most of gmoa union executive members are foreign graduates nowadays..doctors who entered the state medical colleges with their hardwork dont expect silly pirivilleges like these people do..foreign graduates who don't fit for medical profession are the root cause of all the problems..

    jayantha Monday, 30 July 2018 09:16 AM

Abolish all these stupid regulations to all government workers including the politicians. Lets have only available facility to accommodate to nearest school
