Higher Education and Highways Minister Lakshman Kiriella and Public Enterprise Development Minister Kabir Hashim may swap their portfolios in the Cabinet reshuffle likely to take place tomorrow.

The United National Party (UNP) had has decided to re-arrange the portfolios assigned to it under the National Unity Government, party sources said.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is said to have requested Mr Kiriella to accept the post of Public Enterprise Development in the reshuffle.

Besides, the party leadership has requested some senior members to step down, to accommodate newcomers in the Cabinet. However, these seniors have resisted the request.

The UNP was struggling to finalize its list yesterday due to disagreement among its members, which is seen as the main reason for the delay in the new Cabinet being sworn in.

Meanwhile, President Sirisena is reported to have told some senior members that he intended to swear-in the new ministers tomorrow. (Kelum Bandara)

Best course of action will be for the President to take key development Ministries under him and run them with the professionals and experts. It is very clear the corrupt UNP guys want the same set up.Mr. President if you fail to take a bold Stand today there is no future for this generation.

The government will get a big boost if they appoint SF as the Minister for Law and order. Otherwise same old system will continue until the next election disaster.

    Harith Saturday, 24 February 2018 01:16 PM

Kiriella not been appointed as highways minister is a really good move. We all know how he allows tenders.

    Gamaya Saturday, 24 February 2018 01:31 PM

If JRJ or RP or MR wanted a minister to move out, no questions they would obey. What pathetic leadership now. Hence the leadership must go..

    Brainmaster Saturday, 24 February 2018 01:46 PM

We want SF as minister of law and order. via DM Android App

    Vernon Saturday, 24 February 2018 05:23 PM

The integrity of both these so called ministers is highly questionable. So swapping will not make any difference. What is there to be asking any minister. If the President is honest, just appoint those who could do a honest job of work

    Peter Saturday, 24 February 2018 07:54 PM

PM without a honest cabinet, honest and dedicated civil service, judiciary you cannot run a honest government of the people,by the people and for the people. The economic development has to be done on the basis of the suburbs within each city. This means a lot of hard work, dedication for the expansion of the cities and amenities for the peoples. The truth is that it can be done by leaders who have character and dedication for the country and not fill their pockets with corruption. These are the challenges you have to face as a government.

    Alex Saturday, 24 February 2018 08:28 PM

Nothing will change and reshuffle will have no impact on the countries development unless the shameless prime minister steps down from his portfolio and let a suitable person lead.

    Peter Sunday, 25 February 2018 06:43 AM

MS who swears a new cabinet on a Sunday!Have you got the priest to chant payers for the success of the new cabinet? Is this history to create new blood in your cabinet. We hope and pray that your goons and crooks do not find cabinet posts. This is the real crux of the bad government you have had to date. This next two years will show what sort of character and determination you have to run the government.

    ralahamy Sunday, 25 February 2018 06:52 AM

A minister who is inefficient in one ministry does not become suddenly efficient overnight with the change in portfolio. It is the public servants who work under him to implement the policy that make it efficient or not. But the whole bunch of Public Servants are brought in by MR, and can we assume all of them will change their loyalty? The chances are they may try to sabotage at every turn. Now what is the solution?

    Samitha Monday, 26 February 2018 01:31 PM

It is a eye wash. No sense at all . Feel very Sorry for this Beautiful Country.
