Motorists whoever it is be extra vigilance when they approach a pedestrian crossing .However my own experience and others like me ,most of the pedestrians if they are little or grown up just blindly cross the yellow line as it is a licence for them, when the vehicle can not be controlled all of a sudden .The vehicle can be replaced but the child is irreplaceable .

6 year old kiddo is moving alone on a busy road ? There is a 50 -50 blame on both parent and the driver.

If the Police fail to strictly enforce the road rules and make sure all drivers follow the rules where it is in city or out side people will take the law and may result is worse situations than this

there is something seriously wrong if a six year old is going around on the road unattended ! and where education is concerned, children and adults are told to cross at the pedestrian crossing, but someone forgot to tell the rest of it... stop, look left, look right and if there is no vehicle close only, cross the road.

The reason for the people to take the law into their hands was that the police took the side of the driver. They tried to safeguard the driver by taking the lorry away from the scene and by switching the drivers, probably for santhosam. A scheme should be adopted to screen such corrupted policemen with the help of a committee in which few respectable citizens also included.

All drivers must realise that when they are driving on public road, that they owe it to everyone especially pedestrians, whether on pedestrian crossing or otherwise, a duty of care, consideration and skill. Above all, very rigorous and transparent system of issuing driving licence must be put in place to remove reckless drivers off the streets.
