While claiming that there is a move by the government to hand over the Prime Minister post to Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, the National Freedom Front (NFF) asserted that a change of personnel was not what was needed.

Addressing a news briefing, NFF Media Spokesperson Mohammed Muzammil said the people appear to be disgusted with the government and added there should be a change of government.

“It is crystal clear that people are disappointed with the way this government has been ruling the country. Therefore they cast their vote in favour of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) which has as its leader former President Mahinda Rajapaksa,” Muzammil said.

“The citizens of the country have rejected both the President and the Prime Minister as witnessed during Local Government election held last Saturday (10). This government no longer has a mandate to run the country," he said. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

Current fruit salad government has been overwhelmingly rejected by the Sri Lankan public. Only the UNP back benchers and DM reading minority would still urge PM Ranil and CO to continue of their merry ways of brining more destruction to the country!

Sir, don't be in a hurry, there is enough time for a general election to see whether people are disgusted with the government. This is only a local government election. Central government has been elected by the general election. Don't mix orange with apple,Mr.Muzammil. You are talking like a child in politics. Hope I have opened your eyes.

Its only local government elections, but it has stormed the hornets nest. The PM and PREZ are still confused to realize what really hit them.

The number of votes gained by the SLPP is not very diffrent from what the UPFA got in August 2015. Your victory was only because UNP voters stayed away.

PM and President did not contest this election, so you cannot say they have been rejected by the people. The same people have given them a mandate to rule for another 2 years and given a mandate for SLPP to govern the councils. That is what SLPP was elected, to clean the roads, collect garbage etc. and not to throw out a democratically elected govt.
