Motion filed against Prez's request to expedite SC ruling

A motion has been filed in the Supreme Court today by a lawyer against the request made by President Maithripala Sirisena asking the Chief Justice to expedite the court ruling on the dissolution of parliament.

In his motion, the lawyer said such requests undermined the hearing of the case. Therefore, he requested the Supreme Court to issue a ruling after considering the motion.

President Maithripala Sirisena said yesterday he would request the Chief Justice through the Attorney General to deliver the order on the dissolution of parliament without further delay. (Thilini De Silva and Ranjan Katugampola)

Just because the rulers are having loose motions there is no need to hurry a just verdict being given.

    concern Tuesday, 11 December 2018 07:00 PM

The delay is due to complexity of our constitution. Even our highest courts unable to announce the verdict. But some of our politicians and supporters have already announced the verdict. What a joke.

Mr.President, you have already got into enough of troubles by listening to people like Wimal and again you are requesting SC to expedite a ruling which is considered undermining and interfering the Judiciary. Without doing this you have other options to use for and why don't you go for that.

The country is seeking judicial intervention to this crisis due to one man's unconstitutional action. Here the same man is asking the judiciary to expedite the matter as if it has been done by another.

Country needs to go on. Hence an early decision is desirable. Beyond December...can the Country run....

This is a joke. This silly lawyer is taking the system for a joke by filing a case like this. There's another to see if the president is of unsound mind. What people need is a general election like a virekaya to eliminate all problems; not case after case.

Martin Milton Tuesday, 11 December 2018 07:10 PM

I totally agree with HE The President. Why should there be this inordinate delay in sitting down and doing one's homework with the idea of issuing a judgement as soon as possible. Does it take that long to do one's background work and deliver the judgement? It certainly could be done within a total of ONE WEEK IF the Judges wanted to do it. This manner of procrastination has been the true bane of the Court system in Sri Lanka. I wish the SC would 'get a move on..' ! Time is of the essence and the people are still waiting for their decision. MM

If time is of the essence president himself must correct the constitution he knowingly violated. Parliament must bring a resolution to prosecute this SOB. Country is in complete chaos because of him and murderous rajapaksa gang. Ven Sobitha Thera can’t you see whats happening .

    Gamaya Tuesday, 11 December 2018 09:32 PM

The President has no right to ask the juciary to expedite a jundgement. This is presurring the judiciary to make hasty decisions .
