Judicial Medical Officer S. Rajapakse said the skeletal remains excavated from a mass grave in Mannar where likely to be those of 12 children.

He said 114 skeletons had also been excavated from the mass grave in the vicinity of the old CWE building in Mannar on Thursday.

The JMO said a detailed analysis would be done later after samples of the skeletal remains were sent for a carbon test to California.

A team of archaeological and judicial officers are carrying out investigations on a directive of Mannar Magistrate T.G.Prabhakaran. (Romesh Madushanka)

Everybody will say it's SL army's work. Tamils who spend a luxury life thanks to the 'asylum' tag will protest. And foolish foreigners will believe it. Too bad we can't say whether the dead people are Buddhist, Muslim or Hindus by looking at the bones.

This investigation requires experts from USA,UK,or Australia. I think the clue is the children’s skeletons with skeletons of older women.

Thousands died in the thirty year conflict that ended in 2009. But never in this thirty years there were any reported incidents of large number of children being killed either by the Sri Lankan Army or the LTTE. According to what the Tamils in the North have witnessed, the only force that was involved in Northern Sri Lanka abducting children with their mothers was the Indian Army,in addition to forcibly taking away men young and old. This mysterious mass grave is highly likely to be that of some groups of Tamil men, women, and children who were taken away by the Indians and kept in Indian Army camps and then killed. It is vital that Sri Lanka request for forensic experts through the UN to come and assist the local investigators.I think after thirty years the truth about what the Indian Army did to the Tamil civilians is going to come out like a revelation.

Sri Lankans , however ruthless some of them can be, they would not stoop to animal level and kill small children with their families and bury them. I have a hunch who could be the savages who did this to the babies.

This has been discovered over 2 months ago, since it is in Mannar their is no query on it ? Some time back there was similar incident in Matale mass grave which has been wiped off. Will any action be taken regarding this ?

    Child soldiers of LTTE

    Chris Saturday, 01 September 2018 05:44 PM

What an insensitive comment. So a child soldier can be killed by an adult soldier.?I wish you never have to bury a child. So sad.

    Sivakumar Saturday, 01 September 2018 07:10 PM

This can’t be LTTE child soldiers because the skeletons are of very young children and furthermore Mannar is miles away from Wanni where the 2009 war took place.
