Man arrested with fake one million dollar note

The STF arrested a man who was in possession a forged US currency note with a face value of one million dollars.

He was arrested yesterday at Mancholachchemai in Kinniya during a raid conducted by STF personnel from the Vavuniya and Trincomalee camps.

They also took into custody a certificate issued for the note, a copper coin and a copper plate from the suspect’s possession. The man was later handed over to the Kinniya Police.

Earlier, Police arrested several others who had in their possession one million dollar notes in Colombo and Trincomalee.

Police said such currency notes were printed and issued as souvenirs and could not be used for financial transactions.(Darshana Sanjeewa)

STF and Police need education. These are souvenirs and not intended for monetary transactions. Waste of taxpayers money with this kind of exercise. Govt should recruit educated men in the forces. Silly news item.

Sri Lanka's STF is simply and shear bird witted and kindergarten to have arrested a person who possessed a million dollar note which is implicitly and explicitly not a negotiable note whereas billion dollar central bank looters and it's governer etc. etc. are roaming grandeurs!

This reminds me of the short story by Mark Twain "Öne Million Pound Note". It was made in to a film starring Gregory Peck. It is about a penniless man being given a million pound note and how he uses it ingeniously. Worth reading it.

1. STF is out of jurisdiction in this case as it is a Customs matter2) These one million dollar notes were printed by the American official printer of US Currency and it is authentic for the Millionaires club. It clearly states " Not negotiable"I bought an uncut sheet pf 36 notes in 1992 when it was issued as it has numismatic value and is a collectors itemSRi Lanka need education

Joke of the day. The level of knowledge and experience of STF and their entire organization is simply zero. Why can't someone have a 1M dollar bill as a souvenir ? I have seen this in other countries many times in places of interest theme parks etc.. If the man is to cash that or do anything that is prohibited by the law .... would be punishable by law. actually there are no laws whether local or in the US for printing notes with such value because the actual note does not exist.

Very clear, he did not know, SL Govt hat not never allow any person in to war zone during the period, and expelled UN and NGOs from there as the war was "unknown/witness war".
