The Medical Faculty Students’ Action Committee (MFSAC) said yesterday they could not agree with the Presidential Committee Report on SAITM.

MFSAC Acting Convener Susitha Priyankara told a news conference that they had no faith in this report which was headed by Deputy Minister Dr. Harsha De Silva.

“Although the committee promised to make the report following discussions with relevant authorities, they never sought our opinion. They have not even considered the opinion of the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA). All committee members are SAITM biased,” he added.

He said some 7, 200 students attached to state medical faculties boycotted lectures for months demanding an immediate solution to the issue.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister Dr. Harsha De Silva told Daily Mirror that he could not comment with regard to this concern. (Kalathma Jayawardhane)

It is rather surprising to note that Medical education does not have minimum standards. In civil aviation, International Civil Aviation Organisation has stipulated minimum standards for all subjects pertaining to civil aviation and if the minimum standards are not maintained in a country, that country could be prohibited from operating aircraft.

All these people are very selfish. Imagine the plight of those students who studied at SAITM , the money wasted and the parents wondering what is going to happen to their children. If other private institutions like ACBT etc can be operated in sri lanka I cannot see why the SAITM is a question. People don't be selfish put yourself if their positions.

GMOA and ACBT are both like Shylock - no compromise but ONLY THEIR WAY - nothing else.

Opinion?? Everyone knows that MFSAC driven by Peratugami Party and GMOA, driven by JO addition to their own selfish reasons, are for not only abolishing SAITM but against forming of any private medical colleges in SL as well and would not deviate from their stance.

They have something to play b'cos of GMOA. SAITM may fall under Open University.

GMOA and its puppet students want only a solution that satisfy their needs and not a solution that satisfy both sides

Yes. We cant agree MFSAC. I think the Sri Lank should consider opening more private medical colleges.Secondly import doctors.

All stake holders may work together to decide standers of the degree. Whether State run or Private run not an issue. via DM Android App
