President Maithripala Sirisena has assured that the lands in Kepapaulavu and Pudukuduirippu will be handed over to the people in the area within two days, Opposition Leader R Sampanthan said yesterday.
Mr Sampanthan told a media briefing last evening that the President gave this assurance when the TNA MPs met him last afternoon.
“Some 54 families in Kepapaulavu have been given permits and 42 of them are reported to be in order according to investigations carried out by the Government Agent. Therefore these families will have to decide whether they are going to reside in these lands in Kepapaulavu or whether they want to go back to their original lands,” Mr Sampanthan said.
“When it comes to Pudukuduirippu the land will be given to 16 families when the army vacates the area after finding alternative land,” he added.
The opposition leader said the President contacted the Army Commander, the acting secretary of defence and other local authorities in their presence and directed them to release all lands within two days. (Yohan Perera and Lahiri Pothmulla)

MS will fulfill all your desires, but Tamils in general should always support him and make him to rule for another 20 years. OK.

Glad president Sirisena has given instructions to the army/Air Force to hand over the lands to the owners. They have been camping near Air Force/Army camps to release their lands. Though war ended 8 years ago, but IDPs were not given their lands for resettlement. Armed forces camps must be located in government lands and away from villages where people live.

President will use his powers because he is here in Colombo and he has never realized the pain the Security Forces had to take. He will order to release the land that is vitally important for the Security Forces to maintain peace in the area just to satisfy the Tamil politicians. He does not think for a moment the end of these requests! He never thinks of as to how the " Displaced Sinhala People" be settled in the Jaffna areas. Only Muslims have been resettled up to now. Over 25000 Sinhalese lived in Jaffna Peninsula itself prior to Terrorist attacks to Security Forces in 1983. Is the President or the Premier aware of the 'THESAWALAME LAW.' This should be abolished. Sinhala person can buy a land in the Jaffna Peninsula. But, any Tamil/ Muslim person can buy lands and live anywhere? What is this situation? What is this? Is this 'Sanhidiyawa?" Gradually, Tamils will creep through to the other parts of the country and say this ours?

Holding onto vast stretches of land belonging to the citizens of this country is not going to reassure security of this country nor is it helping reconciliation, building trust and livelihoods for those in the north. It only perpetrates the arrogance of the state towards her own citizens.

If Mr.Sampanthan can expect that Tamils can trust the president's assurance, Mr.Sampanthan should not get any salary until president fulfill his assurance. Mr.Sampanthan should tell the government he does not need his salary. Just assurance is enough. Good luck with your assurance.
