Condemning the decision of Israel to shift its capital from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem which is considered sacred by the Christians, the Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith today said this city does not belong to one group of people.

“The Catholic church is of the opinion that Jerusalem should not be a city which belongs to one group of people and therefore we cannot approve the recent developments with regard to this city,” he said.

USA has now accepted it as Israel’s capital. (Yohan Perera and Pix by Pradeep Dilrukshana)

If you refer Biblical Prophesy, Jerusalem belongs exclusively to the Jews and Israel. Temple of the Jews.No Man or Nation can change it.

Jerusalem has been the capital of Israel for many decades now. Whole Jerusalem has been in the hands of Israel since the sixties. It seems the Cardinal has been misinformed by his wise advisors, just like what happens to politicians.

This country has only two original religions Buddhism and Hinduism . Majority of the people are not interested in who takes over Jerusalem which is faraway from our own affairs .

It is just like Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka does not belong to one group of people but to all nationalities of this country, Sinhala, Tamil, Muslim, Burger and Malay. But still it is the capital of Sri Lanka. Similarly, Jerusalem belongs to all nationalities living in Israel, Jews, Arabs, Christians and Muslim. But it still belongs to Israel as its capital city. May be that is what the Cardinal is trying to explain.
