The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) said today it would launch a massive work stoppage and protest campaign after the May Day to secure a salary increase for public and private sector employees and against the scrapping of the pension.

JVP Politburo member K.D. Lal Kantha told a news conference that the cost of living of a family had risen by Rs.6,000 rupees a month after the present government came into power.

JVP general secretary Tilvin Silva said the JVP had planned to hold its May Day parade and the rally in Jaffna on May 1 so that the Vesak festival would not be obstructed.

“No one can postpone May Day. But we accept the fact that there is a practical difficulty in organizing the May Day parade and the rally in Colombo on May 1 due to Vesak celebrations. We will hold our rally on May 1 in Jaffna and the main rally in Colombo on May 7 with a participation of more than 5 million people,” he said. (Ajith Siriwardana)

Anything else you can do ??? Like a constructive salary document for all public servants with a code of conduct ?I guess not, you do not have a vision like that. You lot only know to protest and distrust the progress.

Regardless of whatever, the JVP will still end with 5 lakhs of votes!

The BIGGEST Distraction for the countries development is JVP. On the stage they are good. But they don't want to win a high profile seat and serve the people. But pulling the legs of any political march they are the grave diggers. If anyone thinks at this juncture it is fair that person or group unable to categorize to any group ... really not sure who they are

All these three year the JVP was protecting the govt. Why are they trying to act smart now?

Simple Simon Wednesday, 11 April 2018 03:03 PM

If you raise taxes you must hike salaries. Simple no.

JVP has nothing else to do other than destroying national wealth, innocent lives and strikes. Whether they attended schools, we do not know.Do some constructive thing for the betterment of the country.

I used to vote JVP throughout but not the last due to its a national issue but for fairness I always turn to JVP, I would like to suggest you,(i)MP s can not change their party which they were elected( they sell for billions when necessity arise) (ii) they should not be paid as such (they make increase salary of judges when they want pay rise (iii) scrap this unfair pension scheme for failed politicians ,if you come with them you can catch floating votes and make your voter base treble

    Leel Wednesday, 11 April 2018 07:08 PM

Bring 5000 people not 5 million people.

Dalu Banda Wednesday, 11 April 2018 07:36 PM

Cant they originise a massive protest to force the authorities to increase the productivity and exports so that Rupee will get more buying power.

    Prakash Wednesday, 11 April 2018 08:36 PM

The irony is today you are protesting for salary increase, you obstruct any economic progress, than Govt, is left with only one choice; to increase taxes to meet the salary hike demand. Then tomorrow you will protest to say the cost of living is high. Morons.
