The joint opposition has said it will strive towards the dissolution of Parliament soon after the new government assumes office.

It said it would first present the Vote on Account in Parliament and thereafter, either the JO or the Mahinda Rajapaksa group of the UPFA will move a resolution calling for the dissolution of Parliament and hope the UNP would support this move. (Kelum Bandara)

Looks like people have shown who the MASTERS are and who should SERVE the MASTERS to all these bastards on both sides. Now open the doors to Parliament and let the will of the people prevail! We shall decide who is who!

Th majority(UNP) should appoint Sajth Premadasa as PM and Ranil as adviser.

    Arnold Wednesday, 31 October 2018 07:15 AM

Politicians are playing pandu on our heads. They dont give two hoot about the country or the economy.

    Hiran Wednesday, 31 October 2018 09:37 AM

Unfortunately the will of the people will not be represented in parliament when the MP's have already been bought over with money.

    COLD FEET ? Wednesday, 31 October 2018 06:39 AM

This stand is very indicative of the outcome of voting in parliament

    Jack Wednesday, 31 October 2018 06:45 AM

So now you admit that all your efforts failed buy enough UNP MPs !

    prasa2004 Wednesday, 31 October 2018 06:53 AM

why you then created all these noise/disturbance? Seems you have ruined your chances and people will tech good lesson

    Jiffry Wednesday, 31 October 2018 06:54 AM

Blady power hungers ruined the country Srilanka has gone for dogs. Yes we are waiting for an election and we know what to do

    Gamini Wednesday, 31 October 2018 06:56 AM

Dissolve the parliament and hold elections for both parliament and President to enable people to vote out all currupted politicians including traitors and potential dictators.

    kumar Wednesday, 31 October 2018 06:57 AM

The President has breached his mandate and would find it hard to obtain even 10% of peoples vote. Therefore he should resign based on his own arguments. The JO has a duty to impeach MS. If not the whole of Sri Lanka runs the risk of International Sanction as well as losing its Sovereignty to the Chinese,

    jeffaloy Wednesday, 31 October 2018 07:00 AM

They should have gone through the legal process rather than appointing MR on a weekend. They might be worried of the numbers in their side.

    Karu Wednesday, 31 October 2018 07:10 AM

President should resign and call for a fresh election. Parliament election should be next. JO wants to actlike good boys and grab the parliament first and then aim the President post. How we are governed is more important than who governs.

    Pachaya Wednesday, 31 October 2018 07:11 AM

It's a good decision to have fresh elections. Let's see who hold people's power. Country should not move with this kind of uncertainty

    Mandayan Wednesday, 31 October 2018 07:23 AM

Have you not reminded yourself that you are ruling party now and not JO. Wake up or the people will wake you up!

    Unchikun Wednesday, 31 October 2018 07:49 AM

Looks like the "Horse Deals" have failed. Now they are lookin for a 2/3 majority with the help of the UNP to dissolve parliament. The UNP should not support it and let the JO run the country for the next 1 1/2 years. I was free fuel and all the goodies during this time.

    Ravi M Wednesday, 31 October 2018 07:53 AM

Very disappointed with our President who has led to this mess when a clear leadership was needed. It is not too late to make a u turn and act accordingly with constitution and democratic values. Remember who elected you first and protect those voters democratic values!!!

    Saman Wednesday, 31 October 2018 07:58 AM

UNP will not support for this. Because they can't win another election under Ranil`s leadership

    saliya Wednesday, 31 October 2018 08:39 AM

Immediate action to impeach president is the priority. Nobody trust him.

    joshua Wednesday, 31 October 2018 08:50 AM

Yes, form a government with all rapists, killers and rogues. SL is one country that cannot be saved. Thanks for all MR and his family supporters. All can go to hell together

    vasaliya Wednesday, 31 October 2018 08:56 AM

Every election hereon will have 5.4 million slaves offering slavery to MR. Opposing camp should consider this vote base when formulating plans.

    Shelley Wednesday, 31 October 2018 09:14 AM

Mahinda's latest game plan is to get his own Vote Of Account defeted, leading to desolve Parliement and go for snap election.

    upali Wednesday, 31 October 2018 10:11 AM

Very correct and he willend up with resounding victory.

Liberal One Wednesday, 31 October 2018 10:29 AM

so any one gun ho about democracy should welcome it.

    Unchikun Wednesday, 31 October 2018 09:27 AM

Gentlemen not so fast. The responsible for this undemocratic move need to be impeached before parliament is dissolved. The JVP will chip in.

    Dr.Siri Wednesday, 31 October 2018 09:36 AM

All the legal cases pending against them can be hushed up. What a country.

    bill Wednesday, 31 October 2018 10:42 AM

It is crystal clear now that this government is going to be a very short lived one. JO would push for an General Election as soon as they make sure that there won't be any court cases against any of them in future. They know that under the present circumstances they would also get unpopular if they govern even for the remaining short period. They would rather go for a fresh mandate of five year whilst the atmosphere is still in their favour. JO stalwarts not taking any ministerial posts (so the posts could be offered to the crossovers) shows it very clearly. Anyway, all those are ominous signals to the MP's who are planning to cross over

    mmm Wednesday, 31 October 2018 10:43 AM

An illegal govt cannot dissolve parliament
