The joint opposition today announced that they would support the Government Medical Officers’ Association’s (GMOA) decision to engage in a country-wide strike on Friday against the controversial SAITM issue.

Joint opposition Leader MP Dinesh Gunawardena speaking at a media briefing said the government had continuously postponed its decision on the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) despite being held responsible to provide a solution. (Kalathma Jayawardhane)

This would not have happen if , as he said, Mr. Sirisena stayed as independent president and handed over SLFP to a proper person to lead.

Amazing, no one has so far questioned the legality of JO in a Democratic Parliament alongside an elected and legitimate Opposition?!

    AliG Thursday, 06 April 2017 05:16 AM

Get a life. Root cause is not SAITM. The root cause is the greedy GMOA parasites who are scared of losing their privileges like private practice and car permits. JO are behind this as well for their own selfish reasons. They were behind SAITM when their lord and master started it. Now they oppose it. Shameful situation.

    john Thursday, 06 April 2017 04:56 AM

To develop the country, the Parliament should do away with JO. Where in the world do you find JO in legislature, this is a very serious joke encouraging a destructive group with ultra motives within Parliament.

These JO bufoons have no sympathy or empathy towards poor patients and now they want to support the doctors' strike. Patients should keep this in mind.

We should understand the real issue here.It is the SAITM.The present regime failed to take action so far.No point blaming JO or GMOA.Previous regime present regime are equally responsible for this SAITM issue.Route cause is SAITM. via DM Android App
