Sri Lankan batsman Danushka Gunathilaka, who has been suspended by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), has been declared ‘innocent’ of any allegations of rape.
This was revealed by the Officer-In-Charge (OIC) of the Kollupitiya Police Station.
He said: “We are not holding any further inquiries against this cricketer.”
Gunathilaka’s name came into light when his friend was arrested on allegations of rape, at the same time the 27-year-old all-rounder was suspended by the SLC pending investigation.
“SLC is free to investigate him for breaching the ‘Player Code of Conduct’,” he added.
Gunathilaka’s suspension came after he and his friend were alleged to have taken two female tourists to their hotel.
“We have arrested and remanded his friend who is alleged to have raped a Norwegian girl,” the
officer added.
“It is a non-bailable offence”.
“His friend is a club cricketer in England and he came to Sri Lanka to meet his father,” he added.
This cricketer is a right-handed opening batsman and a medium pacer who plays for Kensington and Chelsea Cricket Club. (Bipini Dani)

If the alleged rape happened in Gunathilaka's Hotel room and if he was percent at the incident why didn't he report the incident first to the police? What did he do about it? When you are a sport person of the nation squad you have some moral responsibility towards the society.

We are happy that Gunathilaka is not involved but there have been some issues about his conducts on and off the field. We hope that he realizes that he has a bright future in the game of cricket and he can contribute to his country. Be good and forget the past.

Thank God! Danushka is an important wheel in the one-dayers. If he was guilty it would have weighed on him not allowing him to score those runs in the tests

Aiding and abetting …. advising or being a part to a criminal act by the second party [local moron] without actually committing the crime is just as punishable or liable as the party who committed the criminal act. watching rape and knowing the fact the act was wrong without interference to stop the disgraceful act falls under aiding and abetting, therefore both parties are guilty. Investigations are necessary to determine the actual extent of involvement by the second party… in other words who drove the alleged offender and the victim to the hotel ? Under whose name was the room registered ? Did the second party was an eyewitness to this criminal act ? It is not the duty of the Police to determine the justice …. That would be done by another corrupt judiciary member.

The victim complains that both are involved. Police reject it without even an investigation because he is a "star". Police should act on facts not on sentiments.

Even though he is innocent , he is guilty of bringing two girls to the hotel where both SL and SA cricketers were staying, SL cricket board suspended him for that , not the rape case , anyway there will be another hearing with SLC for him after if police release him. attitudes matters !!
