The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) said today said it would even seek international intervention to revise the ruling directing the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) to register SAITM's MBBS graduates.

GMOA media spokesman Naveen de Soyza told a news conference that they would not allow this injustice to continue because it violates standards upheld by the SLMC.

“Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne would not have permitted the legalization of the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) by overruling the SLMC recommendations, if he was not SAITM-friendly,” he said.

Dr. de Soysa said it was questionable whether he would over-ridden the decision made by President Maithripala Sirisena as the then Health Minister to refrain from enrolling medical students to SAITM. (Kalathma Jayawardhane)

WE MUST SEND THE PHOTOS OF INNOCENT PATIENTS WAITING IN THE GOVERNMENT HOSPITALS TO THE RELEVANT INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS, AND REQUEST THEM NOT OFFER ANY JOBS TO THESE GOVERNMENT DOCTORS.

Correct, all these protests are planned and backed by Mahinda Rajapakshe

    Sam Saturday, 04 February 2017 08:56 AM

What standard does GMOA has? You people are worst representatives of medical profession. Just stop this nonsense and look after the patients. We all know the ulterior motive if your opposition to SAitim

I am sure that the international community will support GMOA's claim as foreign universities lose money as a result of our private universities.

This is nother acting Srilanka is an independent country No body can not over rule our SC and Ap court any body can request only via DM Android App

    henry Saturday, 04 February 2017 09:57 AM

This is a court decision in SL.International community has no right to interfere.Hon minister of health needs to instruct the SLMC to implement the court decision.

    Ranjitdea Saturday, 04 February 2017 10:19 AM

Very true. I work in a foreign medical school and we are worried that we may lose our customers if SAITM is recognised in SL

    Nial Saturday, 04 February 2017 07:59 PM

Can the GMOA not accept a court decision ? Did they not produce all the evidence at the hearing? If they did , then no further issue! It is so fundamental but they are trying to be arrogant and bloody minded to oppose the Court ruling! Shame on them ! Do not insult the respectable lawyers in Sri Lanka by asking foreign money machines to interfere with our affairs . Yes they will be very happy but don't drop our standards that low please . Just wake up clever doctors of the GMOA! Get on with something useful for a change.

GMOA is a mafia and an illiterate one at that..What international intervention can the GMOA expect? FoolsAt least LTTE always asked international intervention and got it.We ask GMOA- what international intervention are they expecting. This is the same GMOA when India donated a new ambulance service free- GMOA on TV said if you have an accident takeyour car or a three wheeler to hospital,Rest of the world lives are saved by paramedics in Ambulances.GMOA talks about private education (SAITM) undermining free education. All the GMOA members in a few years are not serving the public hospitals- bur private practice.WE CHALLENGE GMOAGive the list of your office bearers before 2005.How many of them are working in Govt Hospitals?95% in private hospitalsYou talk about free education, public health service, You use the service till you qualify as a consultant and then jump to the private sector for moneyDRACULA at least had principles- a declared blood sucker. Not the GMOA

Mr GMOA- pls tell us what international intervention are you planning? NONELet us look at international Medical practice:You all go to UK etc for postgraduate training to qualify as consultantsYou learn that a DR / Specialist must.not see a patient without a reference from the General Practitioner. When we book the Rs 2500 appointment with you, do you EVER ask for GP reference? You know a DR must keep a record of the patient background and each consultation note, WE CHALLENGE a single Sri Lankan Medical consultant having patient recordsA consultant seeing private patient must allocate at least 20 mt s for consultation. Your ex GMOA consultants- do they allocate 5 mts- They see 20 patients in 1 HourHow dare you challenge a court ORDER

doctors are now trying to govern this country instead of looking after the patients.

    Mahila Tuesday, 07 February 2017 05:04 PM

"Ballage weda Boorowa Koranda hadanawa". everyone knows the outcome of that situation. Hilarious and counter productive. Stop private practice opportunities to all free education medicos this year's interns. These doctors should learn to care for the poor downtrodden patients and not make money from free education paid by tax payers.

    Siri Sunday, 19 February 2017 12:12 PM

If GMOA is so much concerned about the patients why not reduce the consultation fees. After all it is the general public who educated them free of charge.
