Edu. Min. issues synthetic text books: GMOA

2017-06-13 17:55:04

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) today claimed that the Education Ministry has distributed among students text books printed on synthetic paper causing health hazards to children aged below 12.

GMOA Assistant Secretary Haritha Aluthge told a news conference said the Education Ministry had printed more than 500,000 Geography text books at a cost of Rs.150 million for use by grade seven without considering the recommendations of the National Planning Department (NPD).

“We believe that more than 200,000 books may have been already issued to students,” he said.

Dr. Aluthge said Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam had submitted a Cabinet paper but the NPD rejected the proposal.

“The Education Ministry has not conducted a field study on finance, technical, environmental and health before going ahead on the pilot project. NPD has said the books may cause health issues among students below the age of 12,” he said and added the chemicals used in the manufacture of synthetic paper could cause shortage of breath, eye diseases and skin problems. Gvt shall publish a third party report on materials used including printing ingredient .Almost all the paints from China has hazardous lead ,recycled plastic of course has many hazardous materials and are lethal for kids. Gvt is spending billions on unwanted ,un- occupied buildings while trying to save a penny from school text books.remember we've already destroyed their environment and polluted the beautiful country exposing them to vulnerable health hazards.

I don't condone GMOA mafia. However, in cases like this, we don't have independent watchdogs who look after consumer protection. And strong enough to resist political and business pressure.GMOA is fulfilling that role.Helpless SL consumer is indebted to them in this regard.

All allegations directed at various occasions are just baseless. I believe this textbook issue is also a such thing without any foundation. Please GMOA prove such health hazards likely to arie from this issue. Please be noted that all chemicals are poisonous if taken too much and for that matter any substance is a chemical. Salt, sugar, your paracetamol, prescribed drugs are all poisonous if taken too much. Please find uot the lethal dose and talk about it. Otherwise you will become another set of jokers. Normal public do not listen to these stories, well educated lok at these as jokes and please do not let GMOA pushed to th status of joker by declaring such statements.

GMOA are already jokers who are also now illegal with rigged elections, their prez. charged for contempt of court. They wanted to bury SAITM using SLMC which misfired as SLMC cannot offer Act 16 to an MBBS that SLMC refuses to recognize. Fell into their own pit. Don't come out. Let SAITM complete their legal training in internship.
