The draft of the new constitution is to be presented to the Constitutional Assembly headed by Speaker Karu Jayasuriya next week, top government sources said yesterday.

They said the draft prepared by the steering committee of the constitutional assembly headed by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, would contain proposals of experts who were called in to submit their views on a new constitution.

It is reported that experts have come up with various suggestions including the abolishing of Executive Presidency, increasing powers of Parliament and of provincial councils.

Mr. Wickremesinghe is of the opinion that that proposals made by various political parties should also be taken into consideration when preparing a new constitution. (Yohan Perera)

Ranil just wants to get more powers to himself before 2020, this power hungry moron is going to sell the country off bit by bit to the separatists. This is a right foul joke!

Now the powers shared to parliament sufficiently. If more powers given to PCs they will work as they want, creating problems. Now what people want development plans not constitutional changes.
