A 31-year-old Cyclist who entered and travelled two kilometers in the Southern Expressway (E01) has been taken into custody by Highway Traffic Patrol last night, E01 Deputy Director R.A.D. Kahatapitiya said.

He said the cyclist had entered into the expressway at the Galanigama Interchange via a toll gate which was closed during the time.

The Cyclist had driven over the centre median and had proceeded towards Dodangoda.

He was later arrested by the Highway Traffic patrol and handed over to the Bandaragama Police Station.

Police said the Cyclist was not under the influence of liquor when he was caught and his motive for the offence was not yet established.

The suspect has been released this morning under the Police bail. (Thilanka Kanakarathna)

Will the peacocks who take a walk on the highway also be arrested?

This kind of thing happen in the US too. However, most of time the cyclist end up dead after getting hit by a vehicle. Every year there is a bicycle race that travel along freeway near where I live. It is not uncommon to have a bicycle rally along new segment of a freeway opening to vehicular traffic.

Idiot don't spread lies ... there are no freeways in the place where you live. instead, you have bull-carts and human waste along the roadside.

I am not condoning the action of this man but why don't the police take the same view when the politicians break all the traffic rules?
