The Right to Information (RTI) Commission issued an order on November 27, 2018 directing the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) to release data on Employee Provident Fund (EPF) secondary market transactions relating to 2015 and 2016.
The order was issued in favour of Verité Research, a Colombo-based private think tank, which filed an RTI request in May 2017 to obtain this data.
The CBSL had refused to release this data, claiming that it was exempted from having to comply with the information requested.
The order to release the data was issued following several hearings before the RTI Commission.
