The captain of the Government should take the responsibility when it was defeated in an election, just like the way a captain of the Sri Lankan cricket team was responsible for its defeats, Minister of Sports Dayasiri Jayasekera said today.
Minister Jayasekera said this in response to an oral question raised by MP Rohini Wijeratne in Parliament last afternoon.
Ms Wijeratne questioned as to who should be blamed for the defeat of Sri Lankan Cricket Team in recent matches.
“Is it you or the SLC Chief or is it the team, who is responsible?” the MP questioned.
The Minister then answered saying the captain has to take the blame.
“However, we managed to win some matches after the new coach took over. We can’t win every time but one must remember that team also wins games. This is the usual situation as you win and you lose” he said. (Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)

You are wrong. The President is to blame. He slandered his PM and the UNP during the last election knowing it may backfire as the 2 main political parties made up the present coalition government.

I am confused who lost most in the election, it was the President. Its the President who is the head of the cabinet and head of the Government as per the constitution.

The captain of a cricket team, of a government, a school etc should take responsibility for losses or defeats only if those above them do not interfere with their decisions. Anyhow, is not the President (acting like) the leader of the government, overruling most decisions by ministers on economy, anti-bribery and corruption and appointment of Law and Order minister, and now even taking over the economic development/management from the Prime Minister? Ministers like Dayasiri utter whatever that come to their mind, with no shame and bringing politics into disrepute.

Don't worry mate, Dayasiri is a lawyer and he can talk from both ends.

Let us be clear, Captain of the government is MS, then this Minister from MS group is criticising his Boss
