Canada deeply concerned by violence in SL

8 March 2018 11:00 am - 21     - {{hitsCtrl.values.hits}}

The Canadian government said it was deeply concerned by the recent inter-communal violence in Sri Lanka and urged all sides to engage in inclusive dialogue and exercise restraint to ensure peace and stability.

Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland said;

“Canada is deeply concerned by recent inter-communal violence in Sri Lanka, in which Muslims were targeted. Canada urges all sides to engage in inclusive dialogue and exercise restraint to ensure peace and stability. We call for an immediate end to hate and misinformation campaigns inciting sectarian violence.

“Canada welcomes the Government of Sri Lanka’s condemnation of the violent acts. Canada calls on the government to ensure the safety and security of all minorities, to protect human rights and fundamental freedoms for all and to hold those responsible for the violence accountable. As we said at the United Nations Human Rights Council last month, frustrations persist among those trying to heal the wounds of Sri Lanka’s civil war. Ensuring that diversity and pluralism are valued is critical to the work of reconciliation in Sri Lanka.”

    Compared to anti Muslim riots in India,we have less damage over here. In 2002 in Gujarat,while Modi was the Chief Minister,hundreds of Muslims were murdered by the Indian Hindus and rape of Muslim women were rampant.

    “We should different, not less.” don't compare with India, we are Sri lankan big or small, losses are equal for every one.

    So, you justify the attack as minor problem.?

    BuffaloaCitizen Thursday, 08 March 2018 01:30 PM

    If you compare the population of india with the diverse races and religeons and the number of incidents of religeos / race riots it is an absolute 0.0008 compared to Sri Lanka where it happens more than 2 times a year with a meagre population in comparison to India. India has many philosophers such as Buddha, Swami Vivekhananda, Tagore etc... who are Sri Lanka's philosophers? Galagoda? Saradiel? Mahanayakes? Gamanpila?

    Why do you expect violence of the same magnitude. By the way India is a big country with population of over 50 times of Sri Lanka.

    If statements of these foreigners can achieve peace and stability we would have been a stable country about 3 decades back. What we need is a courageous effort to look inwards and identify the real causes of ethnic frustrations and give scientific solutions

    BuffaloaCitizen Thursday, 08 March 2018 01:23 PM

    Absolutely no, their are no hero's in this country who will shoot a racist criminal dead while he is robbing or burning down the house of a minority. The day we find a hero who can do that, this country will be at peace. Until then we will be a country of majority cowards.

    If Canada were one of our true friends like China we would have listened to them.

    BuffaloaCitizen Thursday, 08 March 2018 01:20 PM

    Oh yes, that's why you gave 1000 acres for 100 years sovereignty to China.

    Canada is pro-LTTE and funds and supports the LTTE is terrorism in Sri Lanka...the LTTE was mainly funded for its ruthless bomb attacks and killings in our motherland by the fuding it received from Canada, UK, and Euro countries like Belgium, France, Austria also scandinavian countries like Norway, Sweden etc.These foreigners and sri lankan migrants cant afford to talk, they have to first stop funding terrorism and violence.

    Whatever it is Sri Lanka is the biggest loser. 90% of tourists have cancelled their trips. Next to go down will be the investments.

    Chari Thursday, 08 March 2018 01:47 PM

    Canada has never been our Friendly Nation. Why bother about what they say. We must look after our own people and security. China is a friend of Sri Lanka.

    Lokka Thursday, 08 March 2018 03:52 PM

    Canada, you are not our friend. Why worry about Sri Lanka?

    Namal Perera Thursday, 08 March 2018 07:15 PM

    Canada should worry only when the Terrorists who found a safe haven in the Country start showing who they really are. Sri Lanka the only Country in the entire Universe that completely ERASED a ruthless Terrorist out fit completely can easily manage their affairs.
