Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa had decided to appoint a Special Economic Committee headed by former Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal, to look into the economic crisis in the country, and to provide recommendations, the Joint Opposition (JO) said today.
JO member MP Wimal Weerawansa told a news conference that a decision had been taken in this regard during the JO’s Party Leaders’ meeting headed by Mr Rajapaksa Tuesday evening.
He said the Special Committee of Experts would be appointed in the coming days.
“The Special Committee will look into the current economic situation in the country and a report will be issued at the end,” Mr Weerawansa said.
“The report will contain steps and suggestions to mitigate the economic crisis,” he said.
He said the Committee would assist in safeguarding the country and its economy at this critical juncture. (Kalathma Jayawardhane)

Results of your previous activities are being reaped and what further recommends you are to make. Only thing you could do is to say no to interest payments to the debts you raised.

Well he did stay and face any allegations unlike Arjuna Mahendran who is absconding justice. After 4 years of mud slinging i think its time to admit he did a good job when he was in the hot seat.

Cabraal, being a Governor, has no back-bone. He was ýes sir'' for MR, which has ruined the economy of the country. He is not suitable to be nominated to any job

Ajith Nivard Cabraal is a *** and a **** who ruined the Central Bank during his time.
Lord Wolfstein Thursday, 18 October 2018 10:16 AM
Mr. Cabraal was a simple accountant and only has become the Central Bank Governor because of political support. This man has no knowledge about economy.

Cabral is an accountant. He is not an economist. When he joined the Central Bank, the businesses that he owned were running at a loss.I do not think JO (or anybody else for that matter) should listen to him.His hedging or Greek Bonds did not work well for us.

This government has mismanaged the economy from day one. The current problems are their own creations. Present government do not know what they are doing. Without a good educational knowledge of economics one cannot become a Chartered Accountant. Chartered Accountant finance ministers have out performed so called paper qualified BA and other economists in many countries including Canada.
