The Kesbewa Magistrate today granted permission to the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) to dump garbage collected from Colombo at Karadiyana in Piliyandala on a temporary basis.

CMC Commissioner V.K. Anura said the CMC would dump garbage not only at the Karadiyana but also at several other places.

He refused to reveal the exact locations where garbage would be dumped saying it would provoke the people in the respective areas against the move.

He said the CMC would begin dumping garbage from today.

Earlier, the Government said it would temporarily use Karadiyana and Dompe to dispose garbage collected in Colombo.

Send all the parliamentarians, as well, with the garbage, in order for the people to live happily ever after.

It is high time that those responsible can now sit down and plan to establish a compost making factory in Sri Lanka. It will be a good income earner. In India and a few other countries the garbage is sent to the compost factory. Without wasting time the government can immediately look into this possibility.

Domestic Solid Waste Management is the only solution. I'm surprised, why we have waited such a long time to have wast management system in place. Ministers, Please wake up from your slumber, do some productive work for the country.

Temporary basis they said even when they started piling garbage at Meethotamulla. They need to consult foreign countries and find a long term solution rather than shouing at each political party. Take responsibility and people will respect you more.

CK Whilst looking at a long term solution surely do they not need a short term one?

garbage, garbage, garbage. Topic of the week. This is the story. 8 years ago, my best mate got contacts from Colombo and told him to arrange for Australia's waste management system to be introduced to SL. Finally, he agreed because he has a busy schedule. Went to SL with 2 Australians from the country's biggest waste management company. Met the then Environment cabinet minister in his office; explained and showed the minister how the system works. It was a thorough discussion. The minister was so impressed with how the waste management system works in Australia. Green waste goes to compost, compost goes to farmers and domestic garden use (selling to them). Metals are crushed, plastics are crushed and powdered. The balance rubbish goes to landfill. Every layer of rubbish is topfilled with soil and sand. After the meeting finished, the minister's word was 'talk to my secretary and senior staff' who were at the meeting with him. They all came out of the minister's room. Nothing else the

I remember the management of garbage was already discussed in the early 70ies during Sirimavo. But typically Sri Lankan....only talk no action no improvement for the last 50 years via DM Android App
