CID had no plans to arrest CDS – Govt

15 September 2018 09:17 am - 26     - {{hitsCtrl.values.hits}}

The government said that CID had no plans to arrest Chief of Defence Staff Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne as claimed by the media.

“He was only requested to make a statement regarding the allegations against him,” Director General of the Government Information Sudarshana Gunawardena said.

The reports said the arrest was to be made in connection with allegations of the CDS protecting a wanted Navy Officer.
“Some of the print and electronic media, saying that a high ranking figure of a security force is to be arrested, was apparently providing publicity to the opinion of the Opposition that the government was on a mission to hunt war heroes,” state owned Daily News said quoting Mr. Gunawardena.

    Hi SL, One day when you child or niece or nephew abducted for ransom and killed even if you pay then you will feel the pain. Worse still if it was conducted by the people whom you expect to secure the release of them and finally say that they did it for national security. Never support a wrong, immoral activity. Fear your god if you have one.

    If there is evidence the Police should file a case. The media is misleading the public with ulterior motives. Media freedom is one thing, misinformation is another thing.We need responsible media and not assumption from reporters. This is a dangerous scenario for national security.I hope the defense ministry and defense secretary make legislative to stop these assumptions and theory’s of individual.

    Mandy Saturday, 15 September 2018 04:27 PM

    That means it follows that even a murderer should not be arrested till a case is filed. No one can be arrested on suspicion alone means no arrests for at least one year after crime.

    Why not? The CID informed court that they have indisputable evidence against the CDS for harboring and aiding a fugitive to escape arrest in a mass murder case.
