The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) Workers' Union whose strike went on for a week, had been called off a short while ago, Secretary Ranjan Jayalal said.

He said the TUs had been able to reach a compromise with the authorities leading to a win-win situation for both sides.

Mr. Jayalal told Daily Mirror that they had got written confirmation from the government that the TU demands would all be met. He said the government had promised to resolve the situation surrounding the salary anomalies of CEB employees as well.

Meanwhile, Power and Renewable Energy Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, addressing a press conference today, thanked all the relevant authorities including Labour and Trade Union Relations Minister W. D. J Seneviratne for coming together to find a justifiable solution for all. (Thilanka Kanakarathna)

The unions wanted the corrupt officials brought book. Then they are offered a 10% salary increase and the matter is solvers. Sleeping with dogs again.

This salary hike is all they wanted....All these 'corruption' stories are just to make their stike look good....Now Electricity bill will go up soon thankx to these....Another reason to privatize CEB.

I live in Wejrama, Nugegoda and usually we have about one or two power interruptions daily. During this strike we had no power interruptions during the strike. So we now see who created the power interruptions.

So, the strike has been compromised!!?

    Premalal Thursday, 21 September 2017 09:02 AM

After professing a lot of noble proclamations of a fight against hundreds of millions of corruptions, it boiled down to a 10% wage rise. Now all is well

No big impact except for some inflicted cuts in the outbacks of the Country. The big cities went about their normal business. So what ?

Strike against corruption to save the poor consumers. My foot. Such union leaders and their cahoots ought to be put behind bars for life for holding the people of Sri Lanka for ransom. It is thousand times more damaging than incidents like Sil Redi.

    Nana Thursday, 21 September 2017 05:39 PM

Simply this is the truth. Without privatising State Enterprises Sri Lanka has no economic future. We could have done this 20 years back and now would have been like Korea, not even Singapore. I hate JVP for this reason, though they are good at many other policies.

Please explain what the compromise was? It looks like the government bent over and engineers got what they wanted.
