Joint Opposition (JO) MP Bandula Gunawardene said the budget was sure to fail as in it the government was trying to increase foreign investments by relaxing laws for foreigners and imposing excessive taxes on the people.
“This is a more liberal budget which would not offer any benefits to the people,” he said.
He said the finance minister could not present a budget beyond the conditions laid down by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a loan negotiated by former finance minister Ravi Karunanayake.
“According to the agreement it is the IMF which decides the expenditure of the country for the next three years. The finance minister cannot present a budget beyond the policy framework given by the IMF,” he said. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)

He has no real criticism for the budget so he is just hitting out somewhere to discredit it. After all he has to say something against it.

This budget entrepreneur centric. It may be WB, IMF or any other lending organization. This is not understood by tuition masters. Get some lesson from Dr. Harasha De Silva.

Even when he was finance minister he did not do anything if not SL will not be in the debt burdened situation today. Such a person who also said a family can live with Rs 2,500 has the audacity to comment today, shocking!

This is typical Sri Lankan politics. Downright dirty and everything they do is focused solely on grabbing power and nothing else. No matter how good the budget or any proposal at that matter, for the opposition it is always negative. High time, for voters of this country to get rid of such parasites.

When the government raise taxes, it is dancing to the tunes of IMF. Now when they reduce the taxes it is pandering to the whims and fancies of IMF.
