Welcoming the arrest of Perpetual Treasuries Chief Arjun Aloysius and others, Deputy Minister of Development Policies and Economic Affairs Dr Harsha De Silva today said the Attorney General should go ahead and immediately arrest those named in the 34 reports of Presidential Commission looking into serious crimes (PRECIFAC) as well.
Also, Dr De Silva said the arrest was welcomed but he wished that it happened earlier, when the AG’s Department was first informed by the Prime Minister in 2016.
“Glad it has happened. All those who robbed the public must pay upon conviction. This is the change people voted for in January 2015. However, I wish it happened earlier when the AG’s Department was first informed by the Prime Minister in 2016. If so, crooks would already have been in jail,” he said.
The Deputy Minister said it was he who first revealed in Parliament in 2011 as to how the ring was engaging in massive securities fraud in the equity market.
“It was I who first revealed, starting in 2011, in and outside Parliament how a rogue ring was engaging in massive securities fraud in the equity market. But the regime along with the then CBSL Governor instead of investigating them went ahead and issued them an additional license to trade in the debt market,” he said.
“I hope the authorities would at least now support the Central Bank and the Securities and Exchange Commission by providing necessary technical support for forensic investigations to reveal the totality of the fraud that took place since then in both in the equity market and in the debt market.
“I hope that the AG will go ahead and immediately arrest those named in the 34 PRECIFAC reports as well. The future of our nation depends on it,” he said. (Yohan Perera)

Absolutely! Cannot agree with him more. At the same time let us hope the Courts will not be partial and soft pedal any culpability of the PM too. THIS should be the manner in which the HC should function. Without fear or favour. Jolly good.MM

I am of the opinion the time has come for a Cabinet reshuffle. PM Ranil should recommend to the President to appoint a new set of back bench UNP MPs as Cabinet Ministers replacing MPs who are accused of having robbed the government. Yes the accusations against the senior UNP MPs who are friends of the PM have not been proven, in politics if its suspected that alone is enough for the person accused to clear his or her name on his or her own. In order to do that they should step down and allow an investigation to follow. If proven they have not done anything wrong then it will only strengthen their political career. So Mr PM, its time for you to appoint back bench educated clean MPs as ministers and remove the accused UNP seniors from the Cabinet. This action will also improve your image which has been tarnished. You do not want history to say you left politics with dirt on your shirt.

This was something unexpected in this system. All the years only in platform we heard the punishment for the corrupt cronies once the either party comes to power. Then it becomes history. Its appreciated and hoped this will continue until the corrupt are put behind bars. Can we imagine any of these investigations under Mara? The answer is absolute Know. We want to see him behind bars for the crime committed against humanity.

Even the President said he had dissolved the parliament to prevent the 1st COPE report being public knowledge and thereby save the PM. Whatever Harsha says now, ‘yahapalana’ regime did it’s best to save the Bond Scamers. And the politician shareholders of the 'Bond Scam' enterprise remain free at large.

It is not arresting that is important but the filing of charges in Court. Why are charges being unduly delayed by the A.G. If he lacks staff he should hire them per assignment under his supervision for justice delayed is justice denied.
