Archaeological monument demolished in Kilinochchi

An archaeological monument in Kilinochchi is reported to have been demolished by officials of the local authority in the area on a request made by Tamil National Alliance (TNA) MP S. Sritharan.

Officials of the Karachchi Pradeshiya Sabha in the Kilinochchi district said that Mr. Sritharan had for the past three years been requesting them to demolish the site.

Mr. Sritharan was reportedly present when the site was bulldozed. This archaeological monument is believed to have been erected during the Polonnaruwa period. (Romesh Madusanka)

what a shame as an elected representative of the Tamils to have such a zero perception to historical sites. he has destroyed an archaeological site. Remember you have also caused a haemorrhage to reconciliation. If this is how you contribute to reconciliation efforts I must say you are in a very poor state of providing leadership to the Tamil people. There was a BBC sinhala fact finding done the above incident and it was found out that this had nothing archeological value in the monument but rather was developed during the post war era with an ancient design. This demolition is done by passing all statutory requirements.

This archaeological site is not demolished by LTTE! They did control this area for a long time! Thus LTTE is not racist, but TNA is!

We cannot compare demolishing an 8 year old structure with burning down one of the most important libraries with more than 50,000 ancient Tamil history books by Srilankan minister and his police in 1982.
