ACPBA wants closure of SLTB

All Ceylon Private Bus Association (ACPBA) Secretary Anjana Priyanjith today requested the government to terminate the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) service due to the colossal waste of tax money of the people per year.

He said they have the ability to operate private bus service better than the SLTB by providing more facilities to commuters.

“After closing the SLTB, the government should take steps to acquire private buses to SLTB. That will help the government to save Rs.1,350 million per month which would be used to maintain the SLTB,” he said.

Meanwhile, he said the Transport Ministry had decided to import 2,000 buses with the intention of providing a better service to the people by using the recent countrywide bus strike as the reason, he said.

“It is clear that there is an excess of 3,000 private buses in the country. Therefore, the government can use these buses to provide more facilities to the people in a certain procedure. The Minister has no right to import buses to the country. The Ministry had taken this in a manner of destroying the private bus service and its employees,” he said.

However, if the minister is trying to do so, we cannot let it happen and the minister would have to face bitter experiences, he said. “We will not let the minister to destroy the private bus service in the country,” he said.

Meanwhile, the ACPBA requested the minister to operate the private and CTB buses under a joint time schedule.

By assigning the joint time table there would be no need to have races with SLTB buses and that would also help to minimize the roadside accidents, Mr. Priyanjith said.

This government has the responsibility to operate the SLTB and private buses in a joint time table to provide a good service to the people in the country, he added. (Chaturanga Pradeep)

So that you can buy SLTB buses for scrap value. During JRJ government Ministers and MP's have send chits to CTB managers to give nominated buses to their supporters at a nominated prize(1/10th of the actual value).

It is high time, SLTB order more buses and continue to give a good service to public. We all commuters prefer SLTB over the private buses, you can see this when there two buses one from SLTB and Private parked and how the response from commuters?

What right do you have to dictate to the government what they should and should not import to better facilitate commuters. The best option is for the government to bring in so many busses so that private bus operators can be on a permanent strike. via DM Android App

Countries that have permitted the complete privatisation of public transport like uk are suffering from strikes and poor service. Countries that took back public transport into government control by force are now running efficiently like singapore.

In 2002 they tried and failed. Ranil realized that SLTB is an essential service and should be run by govt but must be distanced from Politicians like Singapore. It was MR;s corruption that ruined it

First the govt. should decide who causes most number of accidents, whether it is private buses or CTB buses by carrying out a survey. Then the party that causes most number of accidents should be abolished.

Both Goverment and Private buses are a nuicence on the road but we have to have something. If a timetable share may help go for it, may save a life or two. Perhaps the drivers should stop taking drugs also!!!!

Yes, the private bus crews treat the passengers with politely. SLTB should not get 2000 but 4000 new buses and the the type of uncivilised and disorganised private bus service to be disbanded. The buses sold for scape with the crews.
