In a twitter message, UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe said the intervention by the Police Commission to prevent the arbitrary executive action of transferring a police officer was an important result of the independent commissions introduced by the 19th Amendment.
“Robust democratic institutions are key to protecting the freedoms of citizens from arbitrary actions of the State. We must defend and strengthen such institutions,” he tweeted.

This cacellation , most likely S/C decision to come on 6th Dec. and many more incidents to come will again and again prove that 19th A is the one capable of stopping a Dictator grabing power in my motherland.

Sir elobarate economy of this country non other than any thing. Give it via media and shall support you.

A leader needs to address every major public incident of the country. He does and did talk of the economy elsewhere. This is only on the context of the transfer. Talking of the economy when addressing a transfer is is off the line.

When there are systems in place one cannot act foolishly. The executive shouldn't be doing these. Good to see the effectiveness of the 19th amendment.

From the supreme court and NPC actions it looks like the government elected in 2015/16 has done somethings correct. It is up to the citizens to maintain these trends. Blaming politicians for everything is useless.

Robust democratic institutions are key to protecting the freedoms of citizens from arbitrary actions of the State. We must defend and strengthen such institutions.-that is good but you yourself did not follow that for a loooong time especially under your uncle JR

We thank RW, UNF governement, JVP, TNA, ACMC, CMC and all other parties and politicians for the 19th Amendment and the indipendent commissions. If these were not there insane Sirisena could have very easility ruined the entire country.

We are happy about the NPC, but not the way how you were sitting on these cases for 3 years. Sorry we have lost hopes on you.

Jhon Wednesday, 21 November 2018 04:19 PM

There must be another Independent Commission to safe guard the Constitution immediately whenever it's violated.

Ranil your whole life is full of lies. Just go through the same newspaper on the press release issued byte NPC. They have denied any involvement of this officers transfer or its cancellation since this officers division comes directly under IGP. Shame shame for lying to the general public

Liar. Stop lying. The Commission has said it has nothing to do with it.
