Twenty Indian fishermen were arrested by the Sri Lanka Navy along with two fishing trawlers for poaching in the Sri Lankan territorial waters in the seas off Kovilan Point and Point Pedro.
The Navy said fast attack craft attached to the Northern Naval Command, on routine patrol had arrested fishermen.
One of the seized trawlers was brought to the naval base SLNS Elara in Kareinagar while the other trawler and fishermen were retained at SLNS Uttara in Kankesanthurai.
The apprehended fishermen were subsequently handed over to the Jaffna fisheries officials for onward legal action.
