Eight Indian fishermen were arrested by the Navy for poaching in Sri Lankan territorial waters in the seas off Vettalakerni early this morning.
Navy said a fast attack craft attached to the Northern Naval Command, on routine patrol arrested the fishermen along with a fishing trawler.
The arrested fishermen were brought to the naval base SLNS Uttara in Kankesanthurai and handed over to the Assistant Fisheries Director of Jaffna for legal action. The seized trawler and fishing gear were retained at SLNS Elara in Karainagar.
