Bandula Gunawardena: claim wrong by 99 percent

On 17 October, the Divaina quoted Mr. Bandula Gunawardena as saying that as a result of the Sri Lanka–Singapore Free Trade Agreement (FTA), nearly 4,000 products can be imported with zero tariffs as per the gazette notification 2069/2.

To consider the validity of his statement, we referred to gazette notification 2069/2.

The gazette notification lists the existing tariff rate for 3,539 products, and the new rate under the Singapore FTA for each of these products.

It shows that 3,509 items currently have zero tariffs and so are not subject to any change under the FTA. There are only 30 products (less than 1% of the number claimed) where tariff rate was not zero before but has been reduced to zero under the FTA.

Therefore, the statement that the tariff on close to 4,000 products have been made zero as a result of the FTA is BLATANTLY FALSE.

Having 30 years my wife resident ship in the area , still my son couldn't enter to near by school , just only 150 yards from my house., because I was abroad and my name was not registered. You are continually destroying MR's image as well. You are real pit-bull. You make all sort of nonsense to come power. You have given nothing free for the students , but now talking about free education. People well remember what you said about that Lyceum Girl who got highest rank in art stream.
