Govt. shouldn’t ban Prabhakaran commemoration: Vickramabahu

New Left Front leader Vickramabahu Karunaratne said today that if Rohana Wijeweera could be commemorated, the same privilege should be given to commemorate slain LTTE Leader Velupillai Prabhakaran.

Speaking at a news conference, Dr. Karunaratne said the law should be applied equally to all communities without discrimination.

“If the Sinhalese can commemorate their slain people, why cannot the Tamils do it? Just because you commemorate someone, it doesn’t mean that you are following their ideology,” he said.

He said the government’s attempts to suppress the commemoration ceremony for the slain LTTE cadres would only encourage the concerned people to move towards terrorism. (Indika Sri Aravinda)

Difference are1. JVP has come back to Democratic politics, whereas LTTE not yet denounced Violence.2. LTTE fought against the country and its people, whereas JVP fought against the Govt.Sametime, while admiring your courage to talk about minorities though it becomes LTTE friendly than Tamil Friendly, We like to ask Why you all are not asking for a War crimes Investigation for the more serious crimes happened during uprising during 1989-91 and where many youths (Estimated 60,000 - 2009 Only 40,000) but that is in the midst of cross fire) were even murdered and burnt alive even roadside.??? Very clear double standards..

1. The LTTE is no more, therefore their is nobody to denounce violence 2. The JVP consisted mainly of Sinhalese and they were killed by Sinhalese armed forces. If justice is required, then the Sinhalese public should rise up and call upon their majority leaders for an investigation and punishment. But Sinhalese are cowards to do that. All Tamils are not LTTE but all LTTE are Tamils. In this case totally Sinhalese armed forces eliminated the Tamil LTTE (which is a good and correct thing) but also committed racist crimes against the Tamil civilian population. The Tamils are bold and therefore they have even taken the issue internationally for investigation.

Agree that LTTE should come back to mainstream democratic politics to gain any recognition, like JVP but JVP just did not fight the Govt. but also indulged in terrorizing people like LTTE, to a lesser extent.
