Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has agreed to give a Japanese ODA loan (Yen Loan) for the construction of the new bridge over the Kelani River, Cabinet Spokesman Rajitha Senaratne said.
“The JICA had agreed to provide the loan up to a total of Yen 35,020 million for assistance for the new bridge to ease the traffic congestion,” the Minister said.
“The Automobile Engineering Training Institute, now situated on a land acquired for this purpose, needs to be relocated before the construction of the bridge,” he said.
The proposal for the project had been made by the University Education and Highways Minister Lakshman Kiriella to award the contract of reconstruction of the buildings.
“The Automobile Engineering Training Institute has to be relocated at a cost of Rs. 1,539.8 million at the Orugodawatta Vocational Training Authority premises,” the minister added.
The relocating of the institute, recommended by the Cabinet Appointed Standing Procurement Committee, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers, the minister said. (Chaturanga Pradeep)

Is this a priority. Already the loan repayments are eating up the entire revenue and more. The new government is dragging the country quickly into the drain.

Hope the bridge dimensions dont change after approval as before as where every bridge is a bottle neck. good example are the bridges on Marine Drive near KFC and on Duplication road after St. Peters College.
