Wimal wants a debate on UNHRC proposal

National Freedom Front (NFF) Leader and Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa today handed over a proposal to the Speaker asking an urgent Parliamentary debate within next week on the UNHRC proposal to establish a Hybrid Court for proceedings on alleged war crimes.

MP Weerawansa said that he requested the Speaker to hold a debate in Parliament when it is assembled after September 22 regarding the issue.

In the letter, he had alleged that government had already agreed with the UNHRC in opening statement of Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera at the 30th Geneva session on Monday to form a branch of International Criminal Court (ICC) in the country calling it a Hybrid Court.

He alleged that such a Hybrid Court comprising foreign judges can be formed only by a Colonial country. He has said that he along with the people would not allow the establishment of a co-ICC in the country. (Piyumi Fonseka)

Mr. Wimal u are anti everything without reason. Please be people friendly. Its not about punishing the war heroes or Mahinda Rajapakse. This is about inquiring past crimes in order to prevent future crimes. People of this country has seen their human rights being violated balatantly by past leaders...starting with Srima from 70 to 77, JR from 82 to 88 and Premasadasa and finally in huge way by Mahinda Rajapakse. Glimpse of freedom was only happened during a non partison figure like D B Wijetunge who ruled one year only justly. And our local courts and judges are controlled and biassed. All our cheif justices were controlled and coerced and have had bias. So for the benefit of Majority Sinhala human rights and most importantly for the other minorities to feel that they are living in a safe guarded country..A hybrid court, which cant be influenced by local leaders is necessary for a country like hours. See how biased u are towards Tamils of the country.
