Customs DG resigns

Director General of Customs Jagath P. Wijeweera has tendered his resignation to the Finance Ministry Secretary, Minister Ravi Karunanayake said today at a media briefing.

He said the exact reason for Mr. Wijeweera’s resignation has not yet been revealed.  

However, the minister said that Mr. Wijeweera might have resigned due to ongoing investigations to determine the reasons for the considerable loss that had been reported in the Customs Department in the recent past.

Meanwhile, Customs sources said Mr. Wijeweera had given personal reasons for his resignation. (Piyumi Fonseka and Indika Sri Aravinda)
