Protest to urge enactment of 19A

A protest march -- organsied by the civil society group Purawasi Balaya is currently underway near the parliament roundabout – to urge parliamentarians to enact the long-awaited 19th Amendment to the Constitution.

Ven. Maduluwawe Sobitha Thera, the Leader of the National Movement for Social Justice, former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga and several civil society groups including politicians and members of the clergy are participating in the protest march.

Meanwhile, heavy traffic has been reported along Parliament Road, at Battaramulla and Rajagiriya as a result of the protest march.

The protesters said, at the end of their march, they would stage a Satyagraha at Independence Square.(SD)

    Unfortunately only hooligans protesting inside the parliament are given refreshments and food with public funds.
