Four MPs imported ethanol sans taxes: Ravi

Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake told Parliament today that four members of Parliament had imported ethanol without paying taxes.

He said so while revealing that a consignment of illegally imported ethanol had come to the port two weeks ago.

Minister Karunanayake who came out with this disclosure during the oral question session in the House said details of this later subject to the approval of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe shortly.

Further he revealed that around 25 consignments had arrived in the country every month during the past few years.

Meanwhile, the minister who responded to a question raised by JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said 13.6 million liters of ethanol has been Imported to Sri Lanka in 2014, 10.8 million litres in 2013, and 25.6million litres in 2010. Around 60 companies have been importing ethanol during the past three years. (Yohan Perera)

    Mr RK is not a saint himself. People have forgotten the Air Lanka and Sathosa deals he did.Also the allegations against the previous govt was that theministers were misusing power. Minsiter RK is doing the same. He has his brother in law instated at the Sri Lanka Insurance co-operation.

    all those questioned by cid and their bank statements checked should be served with estimated income/vat tax assessments on income shown in bank statements,for a start.legal action should follow for offences,tax defaulted and tax penalties.if not inland revenue should be dissolved.this country was ruined by all politicians,government servants,thugs,lawyers,clergy,etc. privatise tax dept.like in singapore for better revenue

    All talk only till elections. This offence is easiest to catch from Customs records and get Police to act. This is just to play out the Public as otherwise they could have caught them within two weeks of the 100 days.

    You had two months to get the details and the customs and police to take action on the culprits. Straightforward from the import records. Why still talking only. Not like tracing assets overseas, this could have been done in two weeks.
