The Kandy High Court Judge Manilal Waidyatilleke sentenced to death a Nepalese National, who had been in possession pure heroin in September, 2009.

Chet Bahaduila Thapa of Lallipur Pttan Nepal was indicted on two counts, one for possession of heroin and the other for trading.

High Court Judge Mailal Waidtatiilleke dismissed the indictment against trading and sentenced for the first count on possession.

He was found with 60 pellets of heroin in his person at the time of arrest on September 9, 2009 opposite Queen's Hotel.

The trail started on March 6, 2010 and ended on December 3, 2014. The accused was on bail and later he absconded. He was remanded again till the conclusion of the case.

The detection had been carried out by the Anti-Narcotics Division of the Police.(L.B.Senartne and J.A.L. Jayasinghe)

What kind of judge are you? you should know that justice should be tempered with mercy . The sensible punishment you should have given him is a deportation order to depormt the accused to NEPAL.RECENTLY DIDNT THE GOVT OF SL RELEASE AND DEPORT TO INDIA FIVE INDIAN CITIZENS SENTENCED TO DEATH . You are a baboon of a judge and when you are on your death bed you will agonize and feel the throttle .

As Sri Lanka is a Buddhist nation, its judiciary must follow the principles of Buddhism and show mercy on wrong-doers who commit an economic crime..SL must give up penalizing people with harsh punishment like death sentence.. No country in Europe hangs people even if the guilty murdered 200 people.. SL must follow the example of the Philippines in Asia and stay away following the authoritarian regimes like Singapore

Extremely harsh penalty. Did his nationality play a part for the penalty. ?. If he was a westerner it would have been different.

It is a crime and the penalty is written in big bold letters when u arrive to the island... Even though death penalty is not implemented in SL its rather life imprisonment I feel the punishment is fit. Even though I like partying alchahol and weed occasionally drugs is a BIG no from me it does not steal a moment in your life it steals your whole future ... Hence death or life imprisonment fits the crime committed- I do hope trials would soon imprison many of our king pin dealers
