Commenting on Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal’s decision to resign from his post, UNP Parliamentarian Dr. Harsha De Silva today said that Mr. Cabraal should answer to the financial allegations during his tenure before resigning.

Dr. de Silva said the opposition had been fighting on behalf of the people during the past four years and that the Central Bank had been in the centre of these allegations.

“There are a number of financial allegations relating to the Central Bank, Stock Exchange manipulation especially with regard to the use of EPF and Bond Market manipulations. Therefore, the Governor cannot simply resign without responding to these allegations,” he said.

What is needed is a properly constituted investigating committee and decide who should be investigated for improper transactions for the past 5 years. If there is sufficient grounds with evidence after a brief investigation, that individual must be referred to judiciary panel with punitive powers to deal with the matter. Since public funds are involved fraud cases should be dealt with according to the law of the country. Recover action of funds may also initiated whenever possible.

Dr. Siva Narayan PhD, FCMA, ACA Saturday, 10 January 2015 02:18 PM

Harsha, you are very young politician. CABRAL is the master mind behind "Yalipubudamau Sri Lanka" project. I am not surprise even MR. if CABRAL will appoint as Treasury Secretary or senior advisor to Finance under YAHYA PALANAYA. THIS IS SRI LANKA.

Cabral should not be let alone. He should be held responsible and be answerable if there are corrections, malpractices, misuse and allegation charges against him during his tenure in the Central Bank. Not only him all other corrupted politicos and officials should bring to justice.

You have shown the blunders done by former Gov. now you have the same term to correct them and build new Sri Lanka. (we have only 99 more days out of 100 days)the Good Old lady, CBK also talked many things in 1994 before she was being elected as the President and did nothing and same practices continued. stop talking but act. this country needs people who can work. My best wishes for new president Hon. Maithreepala Sirisena (although i did not vote for him) to rebuild new sri lanka with a new vision and people have given him the mandate.

Dear Harsha! Please dont let these crooks just getaway. Its going to be a bad example. this is a country where a starving school child was charged in courts for picking a coconut. why should this type of crooks who have done irreparable loss to the economy be let loose?

Exactly correct. Every corrupted politician or officer (who supported) must be punished through proper legal procedure for a corruption free future. This is my only expectation from this new President and upcoming Government. My future votes may totally depend on this.

Please DO NOT let anyone who was involved in corruptions to run away. I can remember in the past suddenly the government reduced the import taxes of motor vehicles and just after a couple of months it was increased. Why was it????

    kumar Saturday, 10 January 2015 04:13 AM

Allegations are allegations unless they are proven. If there are irregularities they should be investigated and action taken against those found guilty in a competent court - particularly with regard to the allegations of corruption that were successfully positioned against the Rajapakse administration. Suspect nothing will happen as the new president will need the 2/3 in parliament and will have to attract the same lot UPFA MPs he and the coalition called corrupt. Hope the new administration will appoint competent people to various key positions, without appointing their friends and relations as was done during the previous Chandrika and Ranil administrations.

Buddhika Lokubandara Saturday, 10 January 2015 11:18 AM

Let us not forget the fact that this rogue of a Cabraal was under investigation by the Central Bank for his fleecing and destroying many families by his Ponzi Schemes and Gold Pyramid Schemes. The CID Unit at the Central Bank investigating this robber was dismantled. The original investigations should begin
