Common opposition presidential candidate Maithripala Sirisena said he would not allow those who faced allegations of corruption to leave the country, if he were elected to office in January.
"There are many who are waiting to flee if we win the Presidential Election. I will not allow anyone to flee the country if they were alleged to have been involved in corruption," he said speaking at the launch of the book titled ‘Alapalu Arthikaya’ (Doom and Boom Economy) written by former Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka.
Mr. Sirisena recalled how he was prevented from speaking against corruption when he was in the government.
Mr. Ranawaka in his speech alleged that several highways were over estimated by exorbitant amounts.
Accordingly, he said the Kottawa-Galle Stretch of the Southern Expressway was over estimated by 281 per cent, Katunayake Expressway by 505 per cent, Galle-Matara stretch of the Southern Expressway by 705 per cent and the Kadawatha-Kerawalapitiya Circular Road by 2062 per cent.
Former Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne said the national government, which the opposition would form would introduce a code of conduct for the legislators.
“Members of Parliament need such a code of conduct,” he said. (Yohan Perera and Lahiru Pothmulla)

Lot of allegation on corruption against the President. Most of the corruption occurred in hi way constructions and land allocations to foreign investors. If they are clean they should be able to show the transparency of those deals and explained that they are not at fault. But none of them mention any thing on allegation against them.
