Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya today said that he was only a public servant and that it was not his duty to protect or topple governments.
“Though I was appointed by the President, I’m a public servant and not a servant of the government. I’m not here to protect or to topple any government,” he told a news conference.
“I will also not fear the government when carrying out my duties,” he said.(Darshana Sanjeewa)
