Civil Aviation Minister Piyankara Jayaratne said he would give his portfolio to UNP Parliamentarian Mangala Samaraweera if he returned to the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP).
“Mr. Samaraweera is most welcome if he decided to return to the SLFP. I am ready to offer my portfolio for him as a gesture of honour,” he said.
He expressed these views at the opening of a Presidential Election office in the Anamaduwa electorate.
The minister said that SLFP was not something new to Mangala Samaraweera.
“SLFP is Mr. Samaraweera’s home. Whenever there is some misunderstanding we step into the next door, but we return at the end of the day,” he said. (Jude Samantha)

Portfolio is not something you can offer. It is for the President to appoint suitable Ministers. Whether you were suitable for this post is questionable, when considering your retaining a Chairman of SriLankan airlines, who has gone berserk after becoming chairman like diverting schedule flights for his personal benefit, and you attempting to lower the pass marks selecting trainee pilots etc, an several other matters which has made the national carrier to show losses, much more than can be justified.

He had that portfolio, took money from organisations promising Air Operator Certificates, then delivered nothing. 6 mil from one company that I can prove with documents, if he ever switches sides again. He his a real jumping jackass.
