JVP mulls legal action over poll

Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) today said it would file legal action against the Commissioner of Elections if he announced a Presidential Election as anticipated next month,

JVP Propaganda Secretary Vijitha Herath told a media briefing that his party would take legal action making the Commissioner of Elections as a respondent if the government declared a Presidential Election.

Mr. Herath said his party had already informed this to the polls chief, when a delegation from his party met him recently.

He said holding a snap Presidential Election and the incumbent President going in for a third term were both illegal.

Also, the JVP MP said his party would do its utmost to defeat the incumbent President if he contested for the third time in the event a Presidential Election was held.(Yohan Perera)

Does JVP expect the Court to rule in their favour - this is a useless exercise as the Courts are just "Yes Sir Your Excellency." The whole of Sri Lanka stinks with corruption in every sphere - judiciary and police being the worst.

The previous comments are stupid. You have such rights to criticize the government at will is available because we are a vibrant democracy. JVP without barking and saying BS to disturb the electorate should take up their case to the courts and abide by their decision. We did not have a right to file action in court when Ranil signed the peace agreement or when JRJ welcome the Indian troops in our soil. These guys are now hand in hand with their executioner who accounted for more than 60,000 JVP cadres killed in 1988.
