Hirunika Premachandra, the daughter of slain Presidential Advisor Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra, polled the highest number of preferential votes of the UPFA in Colombo District at the Western Provincial Council Election, with more than 130,000 preferences. She vowed today that she would use her victory and her position to set Kolonnawa Electorate on the right path. She said she had many other plans lined up for the future in order to serve the public.

“Everyone knows that the Kolonnawa Electorate is the most corrupt in Colombo District, with many immoral activities going on. People have proved at this election that they want a change of leadership in Kolonnwa. I will use my influence and position as a provincial council member to put Kolonnawa on the correct path,” she said; adding that she had received more than 85% of the preferential votes in Kolonnawa.

Miss Premachandra said she was also able to win more votes for the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) in Colombo Central, where she is the party’s co-organiser, than it had won at previous Provincial Council Elections,
“Colombo Central is considered a UNP stronghold. It is also a multi ethnic electorate. But we were able to gain more votes than we did during previous Provincial Council Elections,” she said, at a media briefing held in Colombo to give credit  to those who had helped her during the election campaign.

She said the youth of the country had lost faith in the present political system and that she would address the issues of the youth in the district: “Although I don’t expect a ministerial post in the provincial council, I will humbly accept it if I am offered one. But just being a provincial councilor is still a huge responsibility, and I will serve the people in that capacity,” she said.

Asserting that this was just the beginning of her political career, Miss Premachandra said she hoped to enter parliament in the future. (Lahiru Pothmulla and Sanath Desmond) (Pix by Pradeep Pathirana)

You will do a great service not only to the Kolonnawa but to the whole country if you can get rid of drug barons and their MENTORS but can you do it?

    Dear Hirunika Nangi,

please forget the past and get together with Mr. Duminda. Because he is also following our president MR and you also followed MR.
We have to save the president and that is the first issue for the moment. Lalkantha is getting geared and we have to be careful.

Defeating JVP is important more than anything else.
    Please understand Hiru.

First of all check if your intentions are in the right path or not! Do not concentrate only on Kolonnawa, we from other areas too voted to you on sympathy basis more than the Kolonnawa voters.

Congratulations Hirunika. Yes you are right. Please help and work on FAMILY UNITY.
Family Harmony, love, sharing and the unity of the family is the foundation of a successful society. At least a family should eat the meals together while discussing their needs and achievements. Communication is the Key.
Also eradicate Drugs from Colombo and re-habilitate the drug addicts.
You can do it. Good luck and I wish you well.
